Strong ones at that even after a long time apart. I've only got to see her once again in the last four years and yet I dreamed of her just the other night. We had been deeply in love, ended on good terms and our break-up was almost accidental. Strangely, it was the first time that I heard "Lips" and it instantly had a profound impact on me emotionally. I wept openly really hard as I was flooded with all those great memories. For us, I think the lyrics perfectly sum-up our situation. Torn if you will. How life and love are grey and complicated sometimes. She currently has a longtime boyfriend. I do not on the opposite. Were careful not to cross any lines when we talk or discuss him much, but by all accounts he seems to be a good guy that treats her well. She(a nurse) is wonderful too with a tremendous capacity to love and I gather that he gets her best as well and that they share a connection. Yet in spite of that, I understnd her yearning for me a 100% because I feel it too. I've always felt that circumstances never gave us a fair shake and to this day I could easily see us togehter had only a few things gone our way. We had forged a deep bond when we dated that still exists today. It strengthened us both so much because we helped bring each other thru our own difficult period. She was younger and a little inhibited so sometimes communication broke down, but we never fought. We had fun and got along great and when we made love(whether hard or soft) it was always beautiful and satisfying. Were like old best friends kind of in that even though we may go long periods where we dont talk, when we do it's seamless. Like we never skipped a beat. We recenly rekindled things(platonic) and those feelings are hard to ignore. We may never be together again, but the pressure of loving two people in different ways or feeling that you could of left your destiny on the table with someone else is gut wrenching. So I guess "Lips" really spoke to her. I'm glad that she decided to share it with me and tell me what's in her heart. I've even been married before and yet sometimes still look at her as the one that got away. I'll always love her and would do anything I could to for her because she's incredible, gentle and my lifelong friend. I miss her very much and wish it were possible to see her again, but distance and complications wont allow it and it makes me very sad. I lament the passing of time and all the great things we could be doing together. Thank you baby girl. I understand it as: The man and woman truely love each other. But for whatever reasons, they are unable to be with each other. Probably because even though they love each other so much, they always end up hurting each other when they're together. Because of this, they've realized that they just can't be together and must move on with their lives. Hence why they each have a companion that they don't truely love.
