God knows why. I'm not saying I dislike them, I just don't understand why they are so massively popular among modern Goths. Their music seems so different to the Goth Rock of the 80s (i.e. the Sisters of Mercy, the Cult, the Cure, etc.). They seem more like a soppy version of Metallica. HIM's songs are good, when not slightly irritating, and are usually forgivably samey. Valo's voice, though, I can barely stand. He sounds like he loves himself. The arrogance in his voice could be forgivable, if only his voice was good or original. Which it isn't. I appreciate he doesn't feel the need to growl along to metal, though. In that respect it is a *little* refreshing. Yet slightly painful when he attempts notes at the top of his range. All in all, I'd say an alright band who are hugely over-rated. Bless them. You could never mistake them for any other band. I'm rather ashamed to admit the first song I heard was "Wings of a Butterfly", so I'm not one of those fans that's been around from day one. But I can say that that one song turn me into an obsessed himfan. And I don't become obsessed easily. Plus, it's a lovely bonus to have Ville Valo to look at while you're listening to him sing. Yum. And I have to hide it from my mother. That's a hard thing. I've been listening to HIM for a while now, thankyou my dearest friend Lindsey, and my mother can't seem to see that they aren't a satanical band. ^_^ Oh well, I'll get on and say HIM kicks any other bands ass anyday, anywhere, anytime. I haven't been hoooked to any other band as much as I have been with HIM. It's not slow, and it's not too fast. It's perfect, not too much guitar, drum, and piano in cases. They have a perfect mixture to the rythem and their lyrics. :) great band | Reviewer: chris | 5/31/05 this is my favorite band. the lyrics mix perfectly with the music. the vocals are still heard through the music and arent drowned out like heavy bands, even though i like heavy bands too. being a bass player i think mige does a great job. also as a singer ville does a great job too.
