The song changes direction and tempo several times, without coming off as chopped up or disconnected. I'm not a huge fan of the overblown "the world sucks and hates me besides" themes in today's alt/punk/angst groups, but dammit if Green Day doesn't nail it on this album. One of my favorite albums ever, I won't be surprised if American Idiot attains the classic status of The Wall, eventually.
