The Reviews about Give Me Novacaine (page 1/ 3)
------ performed by Green Day

I can relate | Reviewer: Matt H. | 11/5/09

This is one of my favorite songs, and one of the many i can truly relate to. Whenever i don't feel at ease, which is probably all the time, and whenever i feel hurt, or upset, or anything- i always look for something to cheer me up, to make that pain go away. And that anything, could truly be anything. Nobody wants to hurt. Nobody wants to be alone.

And irony once again the enemy, the world will never be at peace.

this song for me has to do with stress and how overwheleming it can be.."the sensation's overwhelming." i mean i guess it could be for other things too but for me personally i can relate to it for stress.

What the song is actually about: | Reviewer: Cassandra | 8/25/09

this isn't so much about the general subjects like "stress" or "love" as it is a staple in the storyline of this album. At this point in the story, the Jesus of Suburbia kid is living in the city after running away from his former life in the suburbs, in search for identity and an escape from lies, conformity, and hypocrisy. His newly developed rebel alter-ego, St. Jimmy, is an insurgent of everything the kid hated about his suburban life. What's happening here is that J.O.S/Jimmy is torn between worlds and identities, lost and confused in this constant slew of new information and truth. He's overwhelmed and probably a little afraid, so he's turning to drugs to ease the pain - which is highly encouraged by his alter ego ("Jimmy says it's better than air").

Love or stress? | Reviewer: Keo | 7/11/09

I absolutely love this song. I am unsure though about the meaning (as with many new Green Day songs). Is this one about stress or love. Either way I can relate but it's kinda hard to tell if it's a metaphor or not.

SERIOUSLY | Reviewer: Anonymous | 6/23/09

this song is very serious. it reflects combat stress from veterans in the iraq war. they chose to use novacaine because it makes you numb, and people who deal with PTSD dont want to feel anything. its better that way. but yes, it is a beautiful song, and green day did a kick ass job. they kept their punk roots, in content if not in style. this song changed my cousins life, who deals with PTSD from the iraq war. thanx billy joe! "mmmmm.... WONDERFUL!"

Can't find the words to explain it. | Reviewer: Anonymous | 5/13/09

Hello! I'm from Russia. Sorry if I don't write correctly. It's wonderful! I did never think that Green Day is my favourite artist. But I listened them so often all this time from 2004...! They were with me all time from 2004. I still listen their album American Idiot, now I surely can say this album is on the first positions "The album of my life"! And Give Me Novocaine is one of my favourite song at all. It makes me move, makes me cry sometimes. It also helps me when I keep my feelings inside and can't give them away, when I'm pacific... Thanks for its energy. I CAME ALIVE!!! I could die without this music. It's all true! Thanks to Green Day! We love you, our saviors!

Cool Song | Reviewer: Kevo | 12/24/08

I believe that this song is about people yearning and longing a solution to get away from all the problems of everyday life. Whether it be the news, life, family, they need to get away. They need "novacaine?"
thx. peace

Question: | Reviewer: Novacaine? | 10/25/08

Hi, I'm a French fan of Green Day, and this song is one of my favourite songs. And I didn't know what "NovAcaine" was, so I looked up the word in a dictionary, and I found "NovOcaine"... Which is more logical as the French word is also "NovOcaine"...Now I don't understand why there's an "A" in the place of the "O" in Green Day's song... Are they exactly the same words, or do they have different meanings, or is it a play on words??? Please, explain!

rediscovered | Reviewer: Anonymous | 10/13/08

i loved green day from about age 9-13. for four years i was obsessed, they were my favorite band. then i just lost interest, i couldn't listen to it over and over anymore. im 15 now and after a couple years without green day, i'm back to listening religiously.
this song makes me cry. back the first time i heard it all i thought was "haha. novacaine, isn't that the stuff they give you at the dentist?" which, it is. but now i hear the song and i actually listen to the lyrics. and the entire american idiot CD gives me this feeling that just scares the shit out of me. i love it. i think i can finally relate to some of the music, and instead of just being some good tunes it means something to me now.
