The Reviews about American Idiot (page 15/ 20)
------ performed by Green Day
Lets see...where to begin? oh..i know....*evil smile* | Reviewer: The impact of tourism | 11/21/04
first of all, i would like to say that, well, american idiot is so true. Americans are dumb. Really. I mean, you have the chance to GET RID of bush, and you don't because half of you are too lazy to get off your butts and out of the trailer park. Just too lazy to stop watching jerry springer, and too lazy to even care that your vote counts. Geeze some people. Bush has just done war for his entire term, don't get me wrong, 11/9 was bad (yes 11/9, stupid people calling it 9/11...get your dates round the right way!) but no one else would deal with it like bush did. sure, John howard has social issues, and is a brown noser, but at least his head isn't that far up his but that he can't see the light of day! Thank you, you may switch off now.
Tight | Reviewer: Anonymous | 11/8/04
This is a great song. I absolutely love it. I hope I can get tickets to their concert in S.F.
Whoever submitted the lyrics for this song though, there is a typo. It's not idiot nation that they say in the song, it's Aryan nation. For some reason though I think that may not be a typo, but maybe I'm just drumming up conspiracy.
Must have struck a nerve | Reviewer: Ellen | 11/6/04
Not being American myself, I am impressed with the level of controversy this songs raises. From far away it seems to me like a clever, angry but fairly vague rehash of an old theme: The media is out to control the people and the people are all too happy to follow. Well, except for the more enlightened, frustrated punk rocker himself ;) Amusingly though, Green Day as a major label band are stricty speaking themselves an active part of the "media".
Anyway, nowhere is any president, government or war explicitely mentioned..I wonder where those interferences come from? Have these recently become the primary meanings of the term "American?
Brilliant Song | Reviewer: Andrew - Oxford | 11/4/04
This song is absolutely brilliant. Certainly one of the best songs of the year for me. People need to stop taking these songs too seriously. Yes, this song is based on America but its just a song and Green Days own opinion of America. They've got their opinion and everyone else has theirs. You need to listen to the whole of the song, not just the lyrics. This song has a great beat and great lyrics for me.
Finally the Truth (or closer to it at the moment) | Reviewer: a Green Day fan | 11/2/04
I totally agree with the review by Nomar; I couldn't have said it better myself!
Usually I prefer the calmer songs like Good Ridance (Time of You Life), but this is a close second.
Green Day Rocks!
for a few seconds, put your pride away | Reviewer: Anonymous | 11/2/04
I say it's about time we put our pride away and start asking ourselves if it's this kind of life we're supposed to have.
I just can't support america knowing that while Bush claims his war for freedom millions of people who were supposed to live their lives are being bombed. And why? because GOD is on our side? because our society is a better one? is it real? if they kill for god, we kill much more. At least they assume their point.
We say it's about god when it's about money. Just check where the people who are now in the government used to work. They were all managers of big corporations, which are "coincidentally" now in Iraq. I could spend a year just writing facts, but it would be a lot better if you guys started to ask yourselves why, for instance, america is helping MTV to spread through Asia, or Disney and Mc Donald's have a millionaire agreement which says that one will help another to sell even more throughout the world.
It's just not fair. Remember that there are a lot of other cultures which are being devastated for profit. The world's getting a worse place to live in, and you and me are to blame. THINK!!!ASK!!!
Who cares what they say em it's green day! | Reviewer: nick schumaker | 10/25/04
Yo lets just put it this way we don't have it bad in america but we don't have it perfect ether. Why because it's run by humans and humans suck their. But any ways green day f'n rules they have some of the best songs i have ever heard. Even my dad likes green day so that definatly stands for sometin lol. Their lyrics in this song are offensive (funny) but their are true very true (funny). They basically say it like it is and if u have a problem wit it don't by their record because their are over a mill more people who will inculding me. I luv green day may they go on forever and create more sick songs for my ingoyment and many others. Thanks for your time i'm out!!!
P.S. Green Day f'n rules!
Politically Incorrect? My ass it is! | Reviewer: Nomar | 10/22/04
This song is telling you exactly what's going on in the world today. The green sludge, could represent Yucca Mountain. The flag, it's backwards. Showing how America isn't progressing. As for the stripes being washed away, America has lost it's original tradtions. I mean... We fought for freedom, not other countries. I think American Idiot is a brutally honest song that should be recognized. There's such depth to this song and if anyone disagrees, so fuck yourself. This song is just flippin' raw. Green Day is awesome, I sincerely admire them for their bold lyrics. Especially since they don't give a shit what people think. I'm for this song. I think Bush made a better president than Gore would've. But the United States is falling into an abyss if you fuckers don't vote! Kerry is the president to save what's left of our economy. Don't get what I'm sayin' twisted, I don't think Bush bashing is the best thing in the world. I don't have enough personal hatred towards one person. It isn't right. But in 4 years, the US Dollar has gone from being worth 8 Euros to $1.25 per 1 Euro. I just think Iraq doesn't need billions of dollars worth of help. The US is in deep shit already, don't let Bush's personal issues on Iraq decay what's left of our economy. Vote Kerry. And GREEN DAY ROCKS!!!
Move On . Org Much? | Reviewer: Dan - Dublin | 10/20/04
Ok. I love Green Day. However, what a dumb song. The music is great the lyrics are just plain stupid. Controlled by the media? I have to say that after being in both the U.S and the U.K and Canada several times the past year, the U.S was the only country that seemed to show a variety of different news channels some of which running longer stories that what I had seen elsewhere. I was actually quite suprised that after seeing a story on the BBC while in Dublin, I saw the same piece on an American news channel while visiting that told the same story but showed much more in depth footage and details which allowed me to create my own opinion. Same happened while I was in Toronto. I felt honestly for the first time that the BBC was a biased news source. I feel we are very much in the dark in the info we see on TV seems very filtered. We are not even seeing HALF OF IT! As for George Bush. I happened to be in the U.S on business during a visit from the interim president of Iraq. He said a helluva lot more than what I later saw on BBC. He was positive and grateful. He cried and was happy. I NEVER saw that. I felt that was just wrong to not let us see all of that. I also watched an interview with President Bush, for the first time in entirety, not what I saw on our T.V. Talk about edited television. This guy WAS NOT what we are led to believe he is. I am saddened he has been painted a monster. He gave me hope and a sense of honesty. I believe he genuinely cares for what happens in the world. The jist of my essay is this. It's easy for us all to judge America. Its easy for us to form opinions when we receive very little information about their president that is positive, if ANY. I myself know that my family in Europe would not have been spared had the Americans not helped during WWII, and after extensive research, I found that they received no compensation for it at all with a casualty total of over 600,000 people. All of us who enjoy freedoms in this world, be it TV, music, internet, travel, working, owe America some respect. You don't have to like them, but respect the country and its president. I fear that someday they may not be so willing to help one of us. Everyone of you should think for just ONE moment about all of the things we enjoy, right down to the last great movie we watched, and STOP IT. As for Australia, I have never seen anything but respect from the Americans towards Australia. I believe you saw something COMPLETELY out of context. Like the fact that on the game you were referring to, they were actually making fun of an american not understanding WW1, not making fun of Australians!
Dave, you're an intillectually challenged individual | Reviewer: socokid | 10/19/04
Green Day is lucky enough to sing in a country where they are allowed to sing that load of crap. For all you real idiots know, this song itself could be playing subliminal messages. It sure does look like that after hearing all that shit you've been saying. If Green Day hates America so much, they should move to Japan, and while they perform they can listen to all the screaming from the teenagers constantly commiting suicide. Oh, please don't mind me barging in on your worship towards Billy Joe and his music. I ,on the other hand, refuse to listen to a band of hypocrites sing about a country who gives them millions of dollars each year and how much the people there are morons for giving other nations hope and opportunities they could'nt get before.
Wanting those that are merely finding fault with our elected representatives to "move to Japan" is exactly the type of thought process we used to go to war over. Asking those that think differently than us to "go away" or be harmed is completely un-American, un-Democratic, and harmful to America. YOU should be considered the enemy. Nazi Germany, China, etc... they would have LOVED you. They think just like you...
Hope to other nations? Are you freaking insane? We spend 200 billion on a war no one wanted, and yet we send only 200 million (no troops) on Sudan where 10,000 people a month are being murdured. Dude, the list is extremely long, and it goes back decades. We do what we want, not what's best for the people of Earth, but because it's best for us. OIL, YAY!!!!!.
Man you are such a dumbass. Open your eyes, read a book, browse the web, SOMEthing, because you are sadly mistaken about America's morals when the "rest" of the world is concerned. Bush alone has turned unanimous world-wide support (after 9/11) to unanimous mis-trust, and even hatred. This is making America Safer? Jeebus dude.
