The Reviews about Feel Good Inc. (page 5/ 20)
------ performed by Gorillaz

Apathy sucks | Reviewer: Last Idealist | 4/28/08

I think this song is more about apathy than anything else; we worry so much about money, our egos, and lust that we forget about ideals, morals, and the power of ideas. Think about it-- when was the last time you saw somebody practice what they believed when it was inconvenient for them? We've gotten far too cynical and complacent, and while this song exaggerates a little bit I wonder how many of us would choose to be in the tower instead of the windmill...

By the way, none of the other reviews mention a very important fact: this song is impossible to understand without seeing the music video. Go find it on youtube, the animation is pretty good and it's worth your time to watch.

But yeah, stop being so damn apathetic, complacent, and materialistic. Go and live that dream of yours; don't deny it because society tells you that dreaming is a waste of time. We all should know better than that.

Apathy is killing us all | Reviewer: the last idealist | 4/28/08

I think that 2-d is trying to point out that we get so tangled up in lust and ego that we forget all about ideals, dreams, and the power they have. Our society today is so fucking materialistic and cynical that we write off idealism as a worthless excercise, because we don't think we can make a difference anyway. I agree with some of the earlier posts that this song has a lot to do with freedom, but I think that it also has to do with the constraints of apathy and cynicism. When was the last time you saw someone really practiced what they believed? I think this is far more central to the meaning of the song than some of the other things people have been talking about.

my interpretation | Reviewer: Josh | 4/7/08

i think everyone interprets it a little different, but basicly the same. Before the song takes place, the town used to be peaceful, but then the army or whomever the hellicopters represent came and disrupted their joy, and now in order to enjoy themselves the residents must resort themselves to a warn down shaq they call "feel good inc." the windmill represents the last of their town that is still peaceful, untouched by the "army", and in the end that gets taken away too, further depresing 2-D and others

My Impression | Reviewer: Willio | 3/31/08

I'm right on board with Lifejump on this song.
It's definately about Freedom vs Imprisonment.
2-D and the rest are locked up in a tower surrounded by sensual pleasures, but they are not happy. Everything is dark and confining, with no clear hopes for the future and no time to slow down and reflect. ("My dreams have to to kiss, cause I get no sleep").
"All I wanna hear is the message beep" is a great line too. It makes me think that he's looking for a distraction from his thoughts.
The "Windmill, windmill for the land" is full of metaphors as well. A windmill being far removed from the city and iconic of innocence and the earth.
I think the dream of freedom is 2-D's way of getting through his day to day life ("Let's take it all in stride"), although he's resigned himself not to follow this dream ("it is sinking, falling down"). He needs the dream to carry hom because he sees no future.
"Love forever, love is free" takes 2-D right back to where he began and is a sign of his submission. Saying love is free removes all value from it, placing it in the realm of sensual pleasure only. However, he sings this with remorse, implying that he wishes that this was not the way he felt.

Anyways, that's my impression from this song.
It's incredibly deep and beautiful.

A bit more... | Reviewer: Willio | 3/31/08

I think that that the rapper represents the Gorillaz record label.
"With yo sound
You kill the INC.
So don't stop, get it, get it"
2-D and the rest are located in a central building labelled "Feel Good INC."
It seems like they are being used to manufacture happiness, or at least distraction, through their music. The irony is that they are not happy themselves.
The line "Yo, watch the way I navigate
Hahahahahhaa" implies that this guy on the video screens is in complete control - the navigator.
The helicopter could them represent organized forces that 2-D feels are actively preventing him from attaining his freedom. He has to hide his dreams from them as the windmill dips into the clouds as the helicopters pass by. At the end the helicopters find his dream and, in El Manana", they destroy it completely.

I wish I had a Windmill... | Reviewer: Lifejump | 3/9/08

Love the lyrics to this song. Although I'm a bit confused as to why everyone keeps thinking it's about drugs and sex and all that crap when it's actually about Mental Freedom and the idea of Escape versus Imprisonment. 2-D is looking out the window, wanting to be as free as Noodles, but except is only trapped in a tower surrounded by sin. He is fully aware of the freedom he can have, as are Murdoc and Russel, as you see them completely awaken. 2-D at one point uses a megaphone to wake everyone lying on ground fully aware of this freedom as well.

Unfortunately for Noodles and 2-D though, there is a helicopter there to end this freedom Noodle has and 2-D desires. And this leads to there next video "El Manana"

Again, very beautiful song...
