I heard this song on Without a Trace the other day (because the victim had been gone missing in the 90s, lots of good songs were played) and it instantly became my favorite song all over again. 10 years later (now at 25 years old), the lyrics are more meaningful and make a lot more sense. Easily one of the best written songs of all time. It's really personal, but in a more universal theme, Johnny said it's about someone you love just fucking up so bad. It's so beautiful and heartbreaking.
