This is just like when actors play gay roles and people assume they "must" be gay because of it. Musicians are artists and write lyrics to describe the world in different ways. It doesn't matter if it about the band or the band's friends, it is a piece of art by musicians that who want to relate parts of the world around them.
As for the Beatles issue, I personally think some of their songs sound much more like the Doors. maybe it's the voice.

Hey Damian, do you know the Beatles song Michelle? Well, when that song was released in France there was a problem with the translation of the name Michelle. The name Michelle is actually the French name for Michael. Thus many French fans deduced that Lennon and McCartney were gay. The difference here is that back then, no one cared, they just enjoyed the music. You would have though that 40 years on we could be more accepting, but clearly not.

The singer, Alex Kapranos, stated in an interview that the song was written about two friends of his — "It was one night when me and the band were out with friends from Glasgow, and we went to this warehouse dance party thing called Disco X. It was a very debauched night and these two friends got it together in a very sexy way."

Oh my fucking god people, even it WAS about them being gay, which might I add it's not, who gives a damn? Why don't you all just enjoy the song for THE SONG! Queen were all gay, but who cares? They made great music.. in other words.. GET OVER IT!

im pretty sure the lead singer might be gay. in another song ( "do you want to") there is a lyric that says "well i knew him before you.....somehting something well i blew him before you" but overall i dont care. gay or straight awesome song and band.

well first i'd like to say that some of you have such a lovely sense of humor. my day didn't go very well, but after reading four pages of this, i felt thoroughly better. you guys are hilarious! personally, my opinion is that damian is a homophobic moron. however, we all have our opinions and i guess he deserves some respect too. i love franz ferdinand to death, i'm planning to get a tattoo of them somewhere. however, this song is definitely not their best. it's a bit cliche, if you ask me. anyways, i'm loving the controversy, everyone is blessed here, except damien. and by the way, it's not a gay undertone, the gayness is practically in your face. and i'm pretty sure kapranos is bisexual - i don't know.

this is amazing, such a feud that lasts over two years. brilliant! damien can go to hell. franz ferdinand is brilliant, michael is definitely not their best song but it's still pretty good. all who went against damien and his homophobic blither are blessed. unlike damien, you are a great addition to this world. [you guys are hilarious by the way, lovely sense of humour.]

ok ppl i rather dislike the fact that you are fighting about gay persons over a song..ok...a fucking good song lol..the thing is that if damien guy or whatever wants to think that way then fine...we cant change hes mind even if hes wrong lol.
please the band is not gay...and sure the song has a few gay undertones to it but its a humorous song, i like the sense of humor franz ferdinand has, it makes the band rather different than the others.
i dont see why you say they are gay...if you are a writer and you write a novel with some gay undertone on it doesnt mean you are gay!...you saying that this band is gay because of some songs is stupid is like saying that if someone writes a song about animals they are one!...grow up and realize that in this world theres a lot of gay and bi ppl that are fantastic...and if you think this song is so gay then why the hell are you searching for the lyrics??...idiot.

Funny how the gay idea came out. I never paid real attention to the link between homosexuality and the band (if it's actually there?) until I read the comments. The first thing the song reminded me of was a slighty drunk vocalist (in an amusing way I guess).
Love all their songs! They're so catchy~ :]

Hah hah, that Damian kid is a moron. Who cares what this song's about? It's awesome! How can you not dance and sing along to this song? Get over yourselves, you homophobes, the song isn't out to get you and force you to become gay. Just enjoy it.
