We first met 25 years ago when we were teenagers. We dated off and on for a couple of years before he went away to college. There was a deep connection, but I was just his "standby" when no one else was available. He professed his love when he was living far away, I fell for it. We were together again. We then again broke up to be friends, only to go through the same cyle of him saying that he loved me and me giving in, only to be broken up shortly after. I moved on, met someone else and a couple of years later while I was living with my boyfriend, he professed his love again. This time I was strong and did not fall for him wanting me again only when he couldn't have me. The feelings remained for he is a soul that I will always love. 16 years later, although I am married (to that same boyfriend that I was living with 16 years before)we saw each other again, only to shortly after have him tell me that I am the only person that he ever could be in love with. I was his fool again as I fell for it. Believing that after so long, for our feelings to still be there that there must be something more to it than just the feelings that you have for a first love and a cheriched friend. I also believed that he had matured enough for him to know when he was really in love. I said that I would give up everthing to be with him. When I said that, it was over and he quickly professed that he loved someone else. Again, I was his fool. I knew that he only wanted me when he couldn't have me, and only used me when he was lonely to feel loved, but hoped that he was different now; he was not. I am going through the same incredible, devestating pain as the other breakups, but this time I am removing his noose. I vow to never let him get the best of me again.
