Have you all forgotten | Reviewer: anarchy_is_order | 6/26/11

With reading through the comments that have been put up I can see two opinions, It's about God and it's about Love, but I can also see that the majority of people who have commented seem to have forgotten one important thing about music, and that is that the artist can write and perform a song and have written it with one meaning, but the real meaning is what the listener interperates it as. This song is amazing and has so much power in it, and as I write this i am listening to the song myself, and I agree with all of you, this song was originally wrote about God, but if some people interperate is to be about love, to them thats the meaning, and there is no point arguing about it. I myself am atheist, but I guess I'm lucky enough to be able to see both sides and I can see how this song could be about god, and also about love, but what it is about is the listeners decision, not anyone elses.

Just remember that next time and don't fight over meaning.

Thank you.

Can't deny what she's said herself... | Reviewer: K | 11/20/10

Just for those people who are claiming that this song is about relationships between people and not between a person and God, this is what Lacey had to say about it herself:

"It's a song about meeting God. I remember looking at a bunch of people's Myspace when I first saw Myspace and the "Who I'd Like To Meet" the number one thing people picked was God. I think about that.. I don't know how many times I've experienced something where I felt like God showed up and saved me or loved me for no reason sometimes. That's why I sing this song, I sing it to God. It's really intimate as well, you can think about it as a relationship between two people in love, too. I never think about it that way.. but what's so cool about that is I think there's parallels everywhere.. in everything in life. I think that that parallel is something that God wants to communicate to us, that he gives us relationships like that, an intimacy like that." - Lacey(on LA Lloyd's ROCK 30)

So yes, she says it's possible for it to be translated as a love song, but that she does not think about it that way at all herself. She wrote it for God and she sings it for God.

All around me..... | Reviewer: Yadi | 9/8/10

I honestly LOVE this song, its so powerful and it does speaks about God, its so awesome to hear that songs like this can mean so much.Flyleaf is my favorite rock band, they are so great and this song rocks!!...All Around me...hmm..I cant even describe the feeling that I felt when I first heard this song...so great...

this song makes me think of god | Reviewer: kristin | 9/6/10

from the very beggining she talks about her hands searching for "you" (singular) arms are streached out towards you ( like shes praying and singing) she feels his presence on her finger tips my tounge dance behing my lips for you ( this verse reminds me of speaking in tounges. it is like your tounge is dancing) "This fire rising through my being
Burning I'm not used to seeing you." when you read the chapter acts it talks about the first days of the pentecost and how a "cloven tounge of fire" sits upon everybody and their tounge begins to speak uncontrollably in its own language.)

I'm alive im alive - when you receive the holy ghost you do feel alive its like your reborn matter of fact some of my most favorite verses of all johns 3:3-8 talks about being reborn
"Jesus answered and said unto him, Verily, verily, I say unto thee, Except a man be born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God.
Nicodemus saith unto him, How can a man be born when he is old? can he enter the second time into his mother's womb, and be born?
Jesus answered, Verily, verily, I say unto thee, Except a man be born of water and [of] the Spirit,
he cannot enter into the kingdom of God.
That which is born of the flesh is flesh; and that which is born of the Spirit is spirit.
Marvel not that I said unto thee, Ye must be born again.
The wind bloweth where it listeth, and thou hearest the sound thereof, but canst not tell whence it cometh, and whither it goeth: so is every one that is born of the Spirit."

My hands float up above me And you whisper you love me And I begin to to fade Into our secret place (once again i feel like she is praying and praising the lord. The Sound of God was the rushing wind that visited the disciples during Pentecost. Some hear It inwardly. It can be heard as the sound of rushing water; the single note of a flute; the music of violins, woodwinds, or bagpipes; or even the buzzing of bees.)

As I cry The light is white And I see you

this is humbling for me crying out telling him she needs him and he is there for her because she sees the "white light", which is only known for god, in revlations chapter 21 verse 23 "And the city had no need of the sun, neither of the moon, to shine in it: for the glory of God did lighten it, and the Lamb is the light thereof."

Take my hand I give it you Now you own me, all I am. You said you would never leave me I believe you, I believe. ( clearly stating shes giving herself to god and in the bible it talks about how we dont own ourselves but god does because we were bought at a price and futhermore he is our creator. then i believe i believe having faith.

This song is very subliminal so you have to know certain verses to put it all together the ones i wrote were just a few, the pentecostal religion isnt well known and alot of churchs skip acts some dont even have them in there bible - revelations chapter 22 verse 19 "And if any man shall take away from the words of the book of this prophecy, God shall take away his part out of the book of life, and out of the holy city, and [from] the things which are written in this book." Acts and john in the new testment will sum things up for you - i am giving verses from the KJV by the way - my end note: god bless all, after all he didnt come back to save thoes who are already saved but he came back for the "lost sheep". i hope to hear more songs like this one from them in the future

yeah buddy | Reviewer: greenbringsmepeace | 8/20/10

this song is wonderful. i can feel for her.
and im sure 100000s of others could too.
religion doesnt have to come into this. just because its towards the man upstairs doesnt make it unappealing what so ever. she has actually made me open my mind. i would love to know for sure. but could anyone answer my question not trying to be smart about it but why would all other countries believe and love god. its not fair if their countries dont support the god that some of us belive... i dont know.
but they way she sings enlightens me.
and i agree with ryan. picture yourself sitting down writing these lyrics. it would be a whole different story. just got to relate i guess.

"As I cry
The light is white
And I see you"

why would everything fade away and see one (person? she just said you" in white. and the big man wouldn't step out into your head with any other color light. definately not a disco ball. or black light.

What is God? | Reviewer: Anonymous | 7/24/10

I'll start by saying one obvious thing: God is absolute. I think all can agree . Well then what is absolute? It is very subjective. For one love is absolute, for another person money, for another power . I think the song doesn't necessarily talks about God as i divine being but about that personal absolute that everybody is searching for.

my opinion | Reviewer: Anonymous | 5/24/10

I think its about a relationship between two people, not the whole god approuch. I dont believe in God so it shouldn't be catorgized as the whole God thing for this song. I get that Flyleaf is a christian band, but not all their songs have to be about God, it can be based on other things, like in Fully Alive, and Cassie. There not about God, but about something deeper.

Just sayin'. | Reviewer: Makrina | 4/24/10

Not to start, but this song really is about God. People who don't believe in God, well then, that's your choice. But you cant say he's "fictional" because there ARE plenty of people who DO believe in Him, including myself. Flyleaf expresses their love for God through this song, especially. It shows how no matter what happens, they'll still believe and never give up hope. And yes, it's about being saved pretty much. Cuz if you listen to the acoustic version, where she begins to sing 'And so I cry' she sings the word "holy" after each remaining break to that. And pretty much, the only one who can be holy is God himself. It's obviously about God. Soooo, juuuuust sayin'. You can argue as much as you want about this song being that it's not entitled to God, but it really is. God is good. God bless you, Flyleaf.

a little somethin to think about and props on this song times infinity | Reviewer: alchemist4ever | 3/10/10

Hmm, well like panda said previously about people interpreting how u like and not to put others down, just based on what u think they mean, well thats truely true.
As a musician, to create songs, for oneself is freeing. Then sharing that song with the world and others who can connect with that song as well is like magic, no matter the interpretation. What matters more is how it makes u feel when u hear it. and ironically that ur not alone, other people somewhere feel similar, grant it be this or that,(who knows maybe somewhere some angel and demon are in love and this song connects them and gives them hope, but thats a very way out there, extreme, example)(no offense to anyone, imagine this interpretation how thow will it, but it shouldnt matter where ur from, what matters is what and how one deals with things and who they become, hopefully good though).
Also, that sometimes a musician meant it one way for example "god" when they did the song the first time. then the second time they sang it, they realize how exact it is with a "special someone" they are in love with, keeping in mind im just giving an example. plus u have to remember, flyleaf im pretty sure write their own lyrics, but not all musicians do.
Dont be so harsh to others.
This song is full of awe and inspiration, if u created a song, would u want ur fans to put others down cuz of it? not to mention making assumptions on what the reason why u made the song in the first place? whether ur right or not, think about how u word things, so others may not get offended and then because of just one word, other people reminded of a bad memory corresponding to this song, nooo, only good memories should be affiliated with this song.
I think this song with just the lyrics alone are so beautiful and full of strength, when I hear it I cant help but to sing along, cuz i connect with it and am thankful to flyleaf for another happy memory i can ad to my memory bank, chi-ching!
Besides, music is one of those wonderful things that can bring people together, no matter how alike or opposite they are. so, appreciate it, and think about the words u choose in the future towards others, cuz words hold more power than u think. one of the reasons i luv this song, is cuz its powerful. and if someone is thinkin about that saying "sticks and stones may break my bones, but words can never hurt me" well, thats far from true, that saying came from a guy who ended up sad and alone and hopeless, because of his pride. Not to mention he was retaliating cuz he was hurt from what was said to him and in turn that phrase came about, quite ironic, a sort of grim fairy tale. But, i wouldn't lie about the facts.
So keep that in mind next time u say something towards anyone unless ur goal is to harm, and those who are hurt, remember Niche "that which doesnt kill us only makes us stronger" but then there is always the saying "that which doesnt kill me, makes me stronger, stranger and that which does kills me makes a good story, besides death is just the beginning".<<the extended very optimistic and creative version.(also im not talking to anyone in particular, everyone is my target, cuz everyone including myself should be careful what they say and write).
Honestly this song brought up quite the controversy in my class, people said what they thought at the time was smart and made sense, but it was not wise because in the end it was not right(as in good) and others became offended and so i just played this song as loud as i could till everyone shut up and started smiling and laughing again. Amazing that so much chaos could come out of something so beautiful. But im glad it did, cuz now everyone in class is more understanding and not so quick to say something they might later realize was not cool(and i mean everyone in class). I always say everything happens, good and bad for an ultimate reason, if not then it wouldnt happen at all.(but thats just my personal belief).
4 me,this song hits straight on towards a diverse range of people, to me this song has different meanings depending on my mood, but thats me. Sometimes, it's god, the universe the ocean and waves when im surfing or my fiance"my love" and sometimes its thai food. Yep yep, differnt meanings for differnt people, but thats how u know its a really good song.
So what if this is a long a response, for whatever reason if ur still reading this, im glad.

Tsk Tsk.. | Reviewer: Panda | 3/4/10

Honestly, I think this song can be what you want it to be. If you think its about god, then its about god. If you think its about a realationship, then its that. Just don't put other people down because they want to beleive something...
