I disagree with the "emo" scene being behind the cliche part in this song. Geez, do you people have any depth?
He says cliche because many of their songs have classic phrases, and classic stories to them, but they have their own taste, and style to them.
For instance, "loose lips sink ships" is a classic phrse but FOB centers it into an amazing lyric.
"I'm standing outside your front window, oh this story's going somewhere."
How many stories / songs talk about being outside of someone's windows? But "I simply do and it best" is true because he turns it into something original and great.
They also use a lot of reference to old movies and actresses, books, etc.

I think this song really represents how people see this band. I mean, Pete Wentz is always shown as the emo and the fag as most people call him. But he writes like all their lyrics. And if Patrick weren't so shy, he'd be the front man. Plus Pete's the oldest in the band, so I think this just kind of shows the cliche they've labeled this band. Fall Out Boy, I think is really unique, because all their lyrics mean something. It's not just a string of cuss words and talking about getting laid like most songs. They actually HAVE a meaning

I love this song, I recently heard that Pete actually writes most of fall out boy's lyrics, which was a surprise, because up until now i just thought he was a self obsessed, useless decoration, but when I found this out, I listened to this song, assuming Pete wrote the lyrics, my interpretation of the song, is how people see Pete, that he's just in it for the fame, it just points out that everyone else is too, "It was never about the songs, it was competition". I also think it's about the whole "emo" scene and how people see it, that it's a terrible cliché these days, for posers and attention seekers, but it's just a bit of a fxck you xD people shouldn't give a shit. "I'm every cliché, but i simply do it best" bringing it back to pete, he's a camera whore, and a bit of an attention seeker, but he does do it best and he knows it.

I'm thinking it's about how people will get into last-ditch relationships when they're really falling apart. When you're famous, you naturally get lots of fans that say they're in love with you because a- they don't know you and you seem perfect from afar, b- their life is spiraling down and they need something to hold onto before they loose themselves.
At least that's what I got out of it.

my interpretation of music or the misery | Reviewer: eyeamu | 8/17/07
I believe that it entitles the fact of what goes down in the music business. Saying that, its true to say what really came first because was it the music that came from nothing or did misery make the music. On that note, it also entails how people are treated wether they are stars or nobodies.
