God is my Tourniquet | Reviewer: Sparky | 5/12/07
This is a beautiful song now that I listen to it again. I'm in college and I got into Evanescence back in highschool. I sort of dropped my fandom after a few years, figuring out that I liked different types of music. I kept the album, though. I recently imported the album onto my iTunes and have rekindled my love for this band. This song helped.
I'm a strong Christian and I now realize the meaning behind this song. It represents the struggle that one has accepting her faith in the presence of so many terrible things. It's as if she's metaphorically killing herself in order to be redeemed... because one has to mentally die in order to fully accept Christ into one's heart. I believe this is what it refers to... and I feel like I can understand now since I feel as if I'm still in this process.
This song is gorgeous. It speaks to the soul.
Thanks, Evanescence for making more sense to me and my spirit.
Not an Evanescence song! | Reviewer: Jason | 5/6/07
Actually, the song was written by Rocky Grey (Evanescence's drummer) and was originally recorded by the Christian metal band Soul Embrace. Rocky has now quit Evanescence and is reforming Soul Embrace!!!
About the Lyrics | Reviewer: Anonymous | 5/3/07
Evanescence, (or Amy Lee at least)are actually Christians ... the error i find with the lyrics is that she is not asking three different questions "Will i be denied?", "Christ?" and then "Tourniquet" ... she's asking if she will be denied her suicide by Christ who is her tourniquet (i.e. she is asking Jesus to save her)
She is also highlighting the fact that going it alone without Jesus as her saviour only brought pain and suffering
Basically the whole song is a prayer from a suicidals point of view, a suicidal who is at a stage where she wants to die, and so is crying out to God to deliver her from it, to stop her from dying and keep her living.
It is really unfortunate that they are not open about their faith, which is why it is leading to confusion over the meaning of these lyrics
Lyrics like this 9 times out of 10 fall into 2 categories; one: being hateful or apathetic towards God ... or two: praising, or crying out to God for salvation
I really believe, given the context, that it is the latter
Which is not a bad thing, because God wants us to cry out to Him for savlation.

It's the christian view on suicide and that taking your own life prevents you from reaching heaven. But if you repent your sins first then also you reach heaven? So it's the confusion and wondering and fear about your afterlife during suicide. It's a beautiful song and it's very much worth listening to.
I love you EVANESCENCE!!!
And mostly AMY LEE!!!!!! I'm only 13 but i understand everything sing about and it really makes me real.
katie - explanitation on Tourniquet | Reviewer: Melissa | 4/15/07
Tourniquet is about a person who cut her wrists, and is asking God to be her tourniquet (which is something that cuts of circulation, so they keep as much blood as possible and live through it). In the lyrics "Am I too lost, to be saved? Am I too lost?!" She is asking if she is too unfathful to God to be saved. - hope this helps
morbidly enticing | Reviewer: rayne | 4/12/07
I first heard this song when I was like, 10. I didn't like it then, but now, 6 years later, I fell in love with it. It's now on my list of favorite songs of all time.
This song speaks to everyone and anyone on so many different levels. Every single human being can relate to it, specially when they're feeling down. I don't know how Evanescence does it, really. It's genius- that's what it is. Pure, brilliant genius!

I've loved Evanescence's music forever. Their lyrics let me feel the pain that I need to bleed out so badly, instead of locking it up inside. They're songs are just sooo cool. I just sit there listening to it thinking "How do they do it? Their music is just so awesome."
