CONFUZZLED!!!!!!! | Reviewer: Angel | 2/9/2007

HOLD up?! Amy Lee said the song means to try and be happy but your still afraid to let go of the numbness, RIGHT? But this Cassandra chick said its a treatement for bipolar people and she thinks it means to let go of bad sides or keep em, aren't u depressed either way? IDK.I guess sum druggies take Lithium. Wat it means to me is its trying to get over all the bad crap in your life that keeps U down but u cant really keep it out Ur head nd ur kinda afraid to lose it? U know? Nd u dnt wanna take the chance of getting happy cuz ur hopes could Be crushed like they always do. So wats the difference wit now, wat hope is there?

well.. besidw other things like lyrics, concept and vocals..the gud thing in this song is that u cant really really anticipate the tune and chordes.... means its not normal.... thats why its a kool song

Lithium | Reviewer: Cassandra | 2/4/2007

Lithium is a treatment for Bipolar (Manic Depressive) Illness. When a patient takes lithium it "weakens" their manic state, and enlightens their depressive state. When many people take lithium they often find it takes away from them because it has a tendency to make a person neutral. I believe this song is about whether to take the lithium, and loose a part of you in a sense (some writers (me) find it much more difficult to write when they are happy). Or to not take the lithium and have to hold onto the bad sides of Bipolar Disorder to keep the good. It's a bit of a contradiction.

but overall its a good song

Amy Lee explains the meaning of this song | Reviewer: vanessa | 1/10/2007

Hi, I found this on Wikipedia:
In an interview with MTV Italy Amy Lee says:

“ It's not literal, it's not literal about the drug for me, I've never taken lithium before. It's sort of a metaphor about numbness and happiness and sort of like, it's me looking at happiness in a negative way because I've always been, you know, kind of afraid to be happy. Like with the band and the art and everything else, it's always like I'm never letting myself break through into the happiness it seems like, because it's not cool or something. And describing happiness is lithium, it's like saying 'that's numbness, I won't be able to be an artist anymore if I'm happy', which is hilarious because that's just not true, I'm happy. So it's like this fight within the song of like 'do I do this and get out of here and get happy or do I wallow in it like I always do?' and it's cool because at the end of the song I say 'I'm going to let it go', like I am going to be happy. ”
—Amy Lee, MTV Italy[4]

Lee also previously stated in an interview with VH1 that she wrote the chorus on the guitar when she was about 16, later filling in the verses while writing The Open Door.[5]

So this should be it....Furthermore it's a great song....really love the way Amy Lee sings it.

what does lithium stand for? | Reviewer: flowergirl | 1/7/2007

I really like this song but I don't know what lithium actually is and means in this song? it's also the title of a song of nirvana so.. it must mean something...
( i know this is not a real review but, where else should is ask the question? )

Don't want to let go of my sorrow | Reviewer: Anonymous | 12/31/2006

I love this song. I can defiantly relate to the feeling. I suffer from depression, and it can be so awful, but I'm scared of getting help. As the song says 'don't wanna let go of my sorrow' I can relate to wanting to still stay true to your soul if you wanna say, but want to be happy at the same time. I read something about it being for Kurt cobain too as he was one of Amy lee's heroes. Dunno if it's true. Anyone else hear anything on it, and have something reliable to say =p I don't trust myself!

really nice!!! | Reviewer: EDELMIRO | 12/27/2006

i think it's so nice this song.... i really love it, like i love Amy lee!!! she is so cute!!!

Evanescence - Lithium | Reviewer: Dorwin Campbell | 12/8/2006

I'm a bit surprised they chose this song to do a video. It songs good and everything but I guess it was just a bit too slow a tune. In fact, the whole pace on each song is slow. I'm kinda disappointed!
