My hometown in Vermont is a slave to IBM, and everyone tolerates and accepts whatever abuse IBM deals out, just to keep them in town and not lose all that money. But in November 1990, after 25 years of loyalty, IBM cut my father loose. I was 15, my sister was 6. Suddenly, I was able to see through the LIES like looking through a window. But I am told that I am crazy by the mindless believers. It makes me laugh when people say "They are all Enron." They are all IBM, too. Society today breeds us to be weak, and I think thats what Amy is trying to get across in this song. If you have ever seen the video, you know that she attempts to be someone else in it, and even holds up a pizza box with the brand being 'lies'. And the line "Without the mask, where will you hide?" I think this is to say, are you really that fake that you need a mask to get through the day? I think this song speaks on so many different levels and I love Amy's way of thinking.
