God will bring peace to His children | Reviewer: CJ Moore | 11/5/2008
Today is one day after the Presidental election, and I hold deep fears and concern about the leadership and direction our country will take. A wonderful school friend sent me the words to this song, and as my eyes read the words, the tears were released from my heart and soul. I quickly grasped hold of the knowledge and faith that I have in a God who
sees, and knows all.
There are many unknowns about the future of our country, but we know
who holds our future. Praise be to our Father.
One of My Favorite Songs - but Not Written by Eny or Roma Ryan | Reviewer: Linda Hendrex | 2/7/2008
I love this old song and Enya does a beautiful rendition, but this is not original work by Enya or Roma Ryan. It is an adapted version of a hymn written in the mid to late-1800s, with some of the words changed to reflect a different belief system. There might have been an even earlier version, but the one I know was written by Robert Lowry and Ira Sankey.
The Lowry/Sankey version can be found at http://www.cyberhymnal.org/htm/h/c/hcaikeep.htm.
Thank you for presenting the full lyrics | Reviewer: Eduardo | 1/10/2008
Hello,
I want to thank you for showing the whole lyrics, in several sites, also in lyrics in CD, the lyrics for this song are incomplete.
I love this song, and once I have read the anonymus review, I love the song more. Enya presents the lyrics in a wider perspective, beyond particular beliefs.
Offbeat Lyrics | Reviewer: Anonymous | 9/6/2007
Enya's song has a beautiful tune but the lyrics are a bastardization of a wonderful old Shaker hymn. For example, one of the stanzas is correctly:
No storm can shake my inmost calm,
while to the Rock I'm clinging.
Since Christ is Lord of heaven and earth
how can I keep from singing?
I won't fill in the rest, but one can see that this song was originally meant to be truly alive!
