The Reviews about Eels (page 1/1)

Songwriting Genius | Reviewer: Josh | 4/28/2007

What defines a favourite artist? Someone you've liked since you were three? Maybe... but not for me.

To me, it's someone who you can go through every single song they've ever made, and confidently say there isn't one song that you dislike.

Someone who has an intense variety, can titilate most of your musical desires. Realistically, no one artist can ever satisfy ALL of them, but most of them is possible.

I have only one artist which I can listen to for hours on end, to every song they've recorded, and say "Yes; I like them all"

Mark Oliver Everett - a master of lyrics in our modern time. He can write songs that get you on the highest highs ('I Want to Protect You'; 'Saturday Morning'), songs that get you on the lowest lows ('I'm going to Stop Pretending That I Didn't Break Your Heart'; 'It's a Motherfucker') and songs that make you stop and think ('Somebody Loves You'; 'Susan's House').

This collection of musicians, whomever they are at any point in time, are severely underrated, and I can confidently say Mark Oliver Everett is one of the best songwriters of all time. There is nothing that will ever tear me from Eels. They are amazing, every song seems relevant in some way, shape or form.

Thank you, Mark; you are an inspiration, you are a legend.

Here's to many more albums. Thank you.
