Don't try to compare the war we are fighting now (and every war the western world has fought for the last 50 years) to world war 1 or world war 2. At the Battle of the Somme in WWI (which this song is about) 20,000 soldiers were killed in a single day. One day. 300,000 were killed in the whole battle, which lasted for 5 months. That is 75 times as many as have been killed in the entire Iraq war, which has lasted a couple months shy of 5 years. Iraq is nothing like the world wars.

"when ever i hear this song i remember who died for our freedom and thank them for there sacrifice for my freedom today "
You really didnt get the song did you?
All those white crosses come from a futile war, a war that started by the ambition of the european countrys and their colonialism.
And also, the "fight for freedom" propaganda is of the WW2. And again, what freedon was that? well, the african countrys at least experienced some freedon after the european countrys couldnt hold over their empire anymore.
But still, a great song, that show us how lifes can be wasted by a bunch of old man who only want more wealth and power...

This song moves me to tears every time I hear it. Having been a soldier in the US Army, and having had the honor of being part of an honor guard at two WWI cemetaries in Belgium for veterans day in 1999, I have been privy to the images of white crosses and the moving sight of the US flag along Belgium's. Songs like this are what is great about the Dropkick Murphys.

I am a long time fan of this song I to an irish immigrant feel the sorrow of our people who died in that war or in the easter upriseing in 1916 by James Connolly my personal hero. But the song says I hoped you died quick and i hope you died clean. It the right lyric.

The most beautiful I´ve heard since a long time. The lyrics are so poetic and old and pefect rounded with this powerful style of music of this young band. I´m almost crying, it really touches me very deep inside.
Besides: the whole album is absolutely great.
Just one thought about the first review up: do not blame the soldiers then or today. Usually it´s never their choice and they are not asked.
