This song lyrically was written about JP's experience when on tour with Queensryche. One of Queensryche's guitarist was telling JP how he should play and write. Basically that person had a "I'm gods gift to everyone" mindset. Add that story with JP's creative writing and you get this.
Geoff Tate | Reviewer: Daryl
This song is about Queensryche's singer, Geoff Tate. He made derogatory remark about Portnoy, and Dream Theater's song-writing, on a radio station and Portnoy took great offense to that. So this is basically an "F-you" song directed at Geoff Tate.
Like Christ speaks to you | Reviewer: Perry
This song is written like Christ speaks to you. the beginning of the song shows how He approach to you. only the sound they used is in real the feeling of love. for man love is in yourself for the one you loves. Christ sends his love to everyone and eveyone can feel this when he is with you. you can feel where he is, feel his moves like you can see a man walk.

ok, i'm a christian...i just read stuff bout DT about 5 minutes ago and their members are christian/catholic/jew/whatever. And as you all know it's impossible for a devoted member of the religious groups above could write a song that glorifies the devil (except Slayer's Tom Araya). I mean, PLEASE learn how to tell apart songs that glorify the devil and songs that are about the devil (some are written from the devil's point of view, though). See, there's a song by Trivium, "Insurrection", that details lucifer vs God, from satan's point of view. It doesn't glorify the devil. Or maybe Iron Maiden's "Number Of the beast". The song's lyrics are only bout people wearing all those 666 chips as doomsday approaches, however only close-minded freaks like you, metal_penguin, say that it worships satan. And this song is a major "PISS OFF AND GET A LIFE!!!" to those who ruin the songwriter's life. Now that you know the meaning of the song, shut up and enjoy this piece of heavenly music
Firm solid rock! | Reviewer: Anonymous | 1/3/11
Everyone can find a meaningful purpose for it. I am a Christian and this song tells me to stand for my believe no matter what.
Whatever other people say you need to know where you stand!
This is a firm solid rock song!
Oh chit meng! Another COMPLETE and TOTAL musical expression of "the truth" | Reviewer: Marshall
Ok for the individual who said this is about lucifer, that's utter nonsense. DT was ABSOLUTELY NEVER about anything purely mystical (to say the least). This is NOT a song about nonsensical belief systems AT ALL. I tend to go forward with the opinion that DT is not concerned with the stone-aged thought-plague called religion/mystical hogwash/heaven-hell nonsense that has seperated humanity from each other since the dawn of language. They're about doing expressive music, PRECISE music, about real things that you can feel, like the human condition. And that, is that.

"Objectivist? This song is written from the point of view of lucifer.. the devil... c'mon open your eyes. "I Am" is God's name... he is saying "TAKE ME AS GOD!"
The "window" is the "all seeing eye" of the devil."
"This song is great, sounds like written by an objectivist. You have to be yourself, you have to fight for your life and what you believe.
Sounds like a BIG fuck you to all the "collective brains" who want to simplify things for the masses and to make money against your own intellect...the ultimate anti-socialism song =D"
both are right, but i would prefer the second one =D

This song is one of the best i've heard, because of the sound, and the message. Forme it's like telling people to stop trying to change you because they feel lke it is right for them. Myung pwns and the rest of dream theater pwns.
Mike Potnoy is the man!!! Check out his performance in the studio to As I Am on You tube!
This song is not only the band saying, "Fuck You" to the record companies. Its also a rally song to all of us out there who dont give a shit about what other people are thinking or saying about us. Take me as I am is simply saying, "I am who I am and I dont give a rat's ass what you think"!
DT is the only best band in the world | Reviewer: Jordan
This is such a powerful song. we all can relate to it. it's kinda like a "fuck you" song to the record company for telling them to make their songs shorter and cut back on the solos, as well as to their fans who want them to produce another record sounding like SFAM, which would hault them from progressing. the lyrics and the music is absolutely inhuman, and the way they incorporate petrucci, portnoy, and labrie into the singing is amazing. if you dislike this song, record, or dream theater in all, then you should die. no other words on that subject than die. the way myung does the intro is outstanding. the riffs are killer. this overwhelmed metallica. the solo is beyond god like. God herself had to have given petrucci, hell, all of dream theater their skill. portnoy raped on this song. he has raped everything he has ever done. my life, and surely everyone's who has heard this, has been changed.
God bless Dream Theater
Hey just letting you know. | Reviewer: Talon
Hey i'm just letting you know the part you missed this goes last:
To those who understand, I extend my hand
To the doubtful I demand, take me as I am
Not under your command, I know where I stand
I won't change to fit your plan, take me as I am
As i am yeah.
Damn........ | Reviewer: Tk
I agree with magic mushroom, I had a chick that completely fucked me over... although the song which was healing for me was from Octavarium "Never Enough". Heard that preformed live at the molson amphitheater and bam... perfect healing song XD
