To me, this song is more about a divorce and what happens with children after this. I really love this song, but one day, when I was traveling, I realized that, maybe, this "angel with silver wings" could be a child, who doesn't deserve the pain of a divorce...
Emiliano just said this :P but I think it's pretty difficult to understand as a song about kids and not about a couple. At the end, we only see what we want to see :)

Go find them now...use the internet...I found her...41 years old now (I'm 40) ... we were engaged 20 years ago and I ran away before we got married and closed the door on her, my friends, her famiy....I ended all contact with everyone.... I contacted her last May...I thought she would hate me... she took me back with open loving arms... I love her. In the past because we loved eachother we didn't contact eachother because we thought eachother had moved on ... she called me a dumb ass for not contacting her sooner. It's beautiful now ...I cry tears of joy now. ... she lives in my town. Has the same friends and family with her and I'll get to meet them all soon..It's a wonderful thing...I'm happy again... We used to go to Depeche Mode concerts together ... and now I hope to go to another one with her now as adults.

Heard this on Smallville Season 5. I was already a DM fan - this song just helped to cement the relationship and prove that my favorite 80s band is still awesome!!

This is a really good song I heard it on CSI Las Vagas and i just had to look up the lyrics. It first cought my attention because I love angels espically ones with wing colors other than white.

For me, I picture an angel singing this to a single human- how ironic.

The angel believes humans to be the true "angels" of God, just as humans think of angels as being the blessed ones. The angel is telling the human that he's sorry for not helping, and it reveals just how dark everything can be, and how our perception could possibley be backwards.

Angels and humans are both seeking comfort in eachother, but it seems that neither have time to spare.

My perception, I know, is ONLY my own- and I tend to see religious things it everything. Oh, beautiful irony :P

Only heard a small snip-it of this song on a re-run episode of CSI on 11/24/07. I loved it and ran to get a notepad to jot down a few lyrics I had heard. I looked it up this morning and here I am.... No wonder I loved it....it was performed by Depeche Mode !!! One of my fave bands from the 80's and throughout the years I still play the cassettes that will still play from days gone by. I have a few CDs....I will be adding this one for sure. I have an ear for the best voices/lyrics in the industry I guess. Go DM !!!

Seriously Depeche Mode is a band that's far away from other bands because of their real artistic talent, using electronic elements into their music anybody could think their music would be empty and is all but that, the great talent to write and make great music composition from Martin is remarkable, as well as the great voice and great show man David Gahan is, put them over any other band, even over pink floyd which are also great; this just proves that these guys are getting better with the years passing by. For people that hasn't seen DM live, They are amazing!, David gahan hits the floor and even He's 44 he's amazing, You gotta see Depeche Mode live, and, if someone knows when They are coming back to Salt Lake City let me know cause i need to get first row tickets

This song is amazing i've been hearing it a lot lately and it was in my head before i knew the name of the song and i finally found it. And it's amazing!

I've been listening to DM since the 80's and they have always been my favorite band. This song just shows that they have still "got it"
