They were using the Rolling Stones Mobile recording studio and were being harrased by the cops for being too loud when recording. So instead of going home they changed the grand hotel into a room, rushing to get the album finished up. Having one day left they were figuring out what to do. That's what the second verse was about - they took an old hotel and converted it into a studio, despite that it was never intended to be one. Anyone? profanity in the original? | Reviewer: Rick | 6/5/07 I love this song - the ominous minor chord progression well prefaces the destruction to come and was unique up to that time. the car commercial made from it is cute also. all the lyrics sites seem to have "cleaned up" the song the way I heard it(if I was wrong I promise to confess on the Misheard Lyrics site!) I thought they said "some stupid motherf---burned the place to the ground". besides if "flare gun" is in there, there are better words to precede it. your feedback appreciated!
