Excellence | Reviewer: Anonymous | 11/1/05 I am a VERY selective listener when it comes to music. I turn down HUGE amounts of songs as bullcrap... Yet Death Cab has a certain resonance with me. It is soft, yet not for pansies. It talks about themes of death -- major themes in my life lately, and seems to shed light on the sadness, making it not quite so terrible after all. Such is the case with this song. The lyrics speak of death, but also love conquering death -- "But if the silence takes you then I hope it takes me too." sings Gibbard's warm voice with a surprisingly optimistic tone. He means that love exists through death. Notice how he does not say darkness, he does not say pain -- he says silence, which still leaves room for pondering about better places.
