Different interpretation | Reviewer: Anonymous | 10/12/09

I don't believe that this about parting with someone. "And I do believe it’s true
That there are roads left in both of our shoes
But if the silence takes you
Then I hope it takes me too
So brown eyes I hold you near
Cause you’re the only song I want to hear
A melody softly soaring through my atmosphere" I think this is saying that he believes they still have a long life ahead of them but that if she dies then he hopes he does too because he doesn't want to live without her. I also think that he's saying that she's the only one he wants in his life - the only melody I want to hear.

i think it's about the love of his life(the character from the song).
there are 2 sides in the after-life. the left side and the right side.
if his love goes to the left side he would still follow her.
other than that i love this song. they are a great band.

Up for interpretation, but... | Reviewer: rather not give my name.. | 9/17/08

I think it's about shrooms. Have you seen the music video? They meet up in the woods and drink tea together...(shroom tea) and end up going on an adventure of sorts through the woods... Even the floating deals in the video resemble dried shrooms. "Brown eyes" could be used to describe a certain type of psychedelic mushroom. For those of you who have done it, this idea makes perfect sense. For those of us from the Pacific Northwest, we know it's not too far fetched for guys to try out shrooms in the woods... especially for Seattle musicians. Listen through the song and it will all make sense.

amazing | Reviewer: katie | 2/13/08

This song is the reason I fell in love with Death Cab. It's one of the first I heard and I found it to be so beautiful. When I'm sad I can listen to this song and it makes me feel happy and when I'm happy I listen to it and I feel like I'm on top of the world. It makes you look past everyday life and think what's beyond that, what's better. Along with Ben Gibbards beautiful voice are always beautiful lyrics. I don't think this band has produced one bad song..

Love @ this song | Reviewer: Anonymous | 1/9/08

I agree with Amanda. I see this song as reflecting someone's longing for the place or situation that makes them feel a sense of completeness and belonging, because their current circumstances are unsatisfying. It is up to interpretation though.

Amazing song | Reviewer: Caitlin | 1/9/08

I find this song to be pretty striking. I agree with Amy that it is about new directions in life, but that is up to interpretation. I see it as someone longing for a place or situation where they feel a sense of completeness and belonging, because their current circumstances just aren't satisfying.

death cab has an excellent sound! even though this is their most popular songs. you should look at others too. they are are amazing! i suggest 'photobooth' 'i will follow you into the dark' and 'a lack of color'. even though all there songs are great. and if you like them check out the postal service, its the same singer. both have a creative and unique sound.

Death? What? | Reviewer: Anonymous | 4/5/07

I didn't see death in this song. I saw a connection of body and soul. I saw a desire for far off destinations- IN LIFE. "I do believe it's true that there are roads left in both of our shoes, and if the silence takes you then I hope that it takes me too." I took this to mean parting with a loved one with no remorse.

The perception of art is just as creative as the art itself.

OMFG! | Reviewer: Anonymous | 2/12/07

This is the first song I ever heard by DCFC, and I instantly fell in love with it. I have got to agree with the second reviewer. I also recommend "A Lack of Color"

I agree with the first review. This song has so much meaning to me because of its meaning about death and the aftermath of it all. Each sentence makes so much sense and can be interpreted by each person differently. I love this song, and I have only heard the acoustic version. I have been looking for the original version all over, but I cant find it. I guess I should go out and buy their cd.
