I really do love this song. I mostly listen to gangsta rap, but i saw this song on my computer and just decided to give it a listen and I really enjoyed it. It's soo soothing and peaceful. Good work, David Byrne. :-)

First of all whoever corrected the lyrics these are correct for the censored version and secondly whoever wrote different lyrics, the feeling i got from your review was you firstly stole it and secondly you over-harshly critiqued it by over-analyzing it with intent to under-analyze it to make it appear shallow when really it isn't just a asininely written song exposing flaws it's accepting humanity even though it is flawed and continues to mess up and those lyrics were almost a good song but since i knew why they were written, when i read them they didn't seem good because they were so aimed at proving "your" point
lyrics correction | Reviewer: Anonymous | 4/10/08
this sounds like a song that would come with the computer!!!!!
Anyway, the lyrics in the second verse are incorrect:
"we're eatin' off plates and we kiss with our tongue"
should be
"I never watch TV, except when I'm stoned"
peace and love! | Reviewer: the one | 4/7/08
i love this song. it makes me feel strangely peaceful, and i think that David B. describes life just the way it is, we don´t so anything but complain about our life's and he is right with such profound words. i love him, and i love this song. peace and love to you all folks. see ya in another life

Amazing Song! | Reviewer: Will | 6/21/07
I love this song, I think it should have made it to the top of the charts or at least close to it.
This song comes on the windows xp home and pro operating system as a sample, but they chose a damn good song!
God like humans do | Reviewer: gail kennon | 4/7/07
i'd been listening to the album look into the eyeball all week and it was on my c.d. on good friday. just before i replaced it with messian's "quartet for the end of time" for good friday meditation i listened to "like humans do"...what an insight into Christ's passion i received. He was aching and shaking and breaking from his torment in the garden to his dying on the cross...the Son of God suffering "Like Humans Do"...thanks david byrne.

Unfortunately the title of David Byrne's song is vastly misleading by letting us think that one will hear a song with some sort of meaningful and insightful analysis or at least a truthful commentary on humans, the human impact, or something worth thinking about and opening a debate. However, "like humans do", or as one would expect from so many songwriters, it is a shallow, general misrepresentation of human lives as though everyone wastes their time in some such light, flighty daily activities of most life forms. Like Humans Don't Do, it doesn't transcend such observations and present the general truth and where to go from there.
In reality some humans do indulge themselves as such while others indulge more meaningfully in some of these daily activities and/or in other activities of much more importance to the future of all life including humans. So, unfortunately, I have to give the lyrics a 0 because of a meaningless theme and recommend they be changed. However, the music is good and just needs good lyrics to make it great.
Since I believe it is always best to critique with a good example of my view, I shall leave you with one possible scenario of lyrics for this song that could and should clarify my point. I shall try to keep it in the flavor of Mr. Byrne's original, but with more transcending thoughts, thus
Like Humans Do
For millions of years, In millions of ways
Humans have done well, Humans have done ill
We've learned how to love and we've learned how to kill
Like Humans Do
[Chorus 1]
We're breathin' in
We're breathin' out
But humans must find what it's all about
All life's made a wreck
No justice will ensue
As we glorify our ills
And pervert the truth
We're achin'
We're shakin'
We're breakin' everything
Like Humans Do
We're achin'like
We're shakin'like
We're breakin' everything like
Like Humans Do
We work and we sleep and we think until we die
We're eatin' all, we're laughin' all and we're lovin' our ills
We never critique our misdeeds until it is too late
Like Humans Do
[Chorus 2]
We're breathin' in
We're breathin' out
But humans must find what it's all about
Restore the wrecked earth
To a reasonable home
Begin to see the truths
And face the ills we've done
We're achin'
We're shakin'
We're breakin' everything
Like Humans Do
We're achin'like
We're shakin'like
We're breakin' everything like
Like Humans Do
etc. (I like it better thus and will sing with such lyrics.)
