amazing... | Reviewer: Dan | 11/5/07
I'm 26, a vocalist, I just heard the song for the 1st time, looking for some songs to cover. Came here to see the lyrics. It's amazing this song was written in 1969, and it's more powerful than any rock/metal/rap song nowadays. I'm from Croatia, a country with double standards, one for the snobs (they even get away with murder), and the other one for normal people. It seems like the story is repeating over and over again, everywhere. I ain't no fortunate son...nor would I want to be!
Simple genius | Reviewer: Anonymous | 9/25/07
Most of the other reviewers comment on the lyrics and I agree 100%. They are deep and convincing. I would also like to praise the music. There are only 4 basic chords in this tune and some very simple lead but the song rocks more than most tunes that try too hard. This song is a perfect model of the ideal tune and songwriters have yet to make a science of this.

since I was born I've heard this song ringin in my ear... eventhough at the beginin I didn't understand a word of English I really loved this song, I don't know why, but whithout knowing its meaning I could percieve how strong was its message.. today its the first time I read this song and I feel that its message is not only universal but also true... unfortunatelly, it seems that this reality is not going to change.. but at least there were artists that were brave enough for facing the world and saying.. you know what?.. this is what I see.. I feel ..I know... very different from the ones that we hear nowadays.. whose main concerns are parties ,cars and money.

Best song ever! Listened to it over and over again, and I'm still not tired with it!
Unforgettable | Reviewer: Ryan T | 3/7/07
One of the coolest, most original, and most memorable songs ever made period, and should be the official song of George W. Bush- they should play it instead of "Hail to the Chief" which fittingly enough is referenced in the opening stanza!!!
That it manages to convey such a striking message and meaning without sacrificing musical quality is a testament to the brilliance of its crafters, and stands it in stark contrast with the insipid tripe of today which only distinguishes itself by its utter lack of both meaning and memorable sound quality!
Keep on Rocking in the Free World | Reviewer: Mike | 2/22/07
Whether during the Vietnam War or now, the lyrics of this in your face song ring so true!!
Bush loves to use the phrase "Cut and Run" when it fact it was what he, Cheney, Tom Delay and Carl Rove did during the Vietnam War. 58,000 young Americans were not lucky enough to get five deferments or have their dad pull some strings so that they could defend the U.S. against hostile MIG Pilots from Cuba and illegal aliens from Mexico armed with only the clothes that they had on!!
"Actually, it's better than most punk songs" | Reviewer: Randy Underdog | 2/2/07
"a punk song by a rock band," as Dr. Golova Croxby said here earlier. As a long time punk (and a literal "child of the sixties") I couldn't agree more. Most protest songs of the period were tenderly sang. "Fortunate Son" is angry, and yet powerful, and almost makes me tearful, especially in the context of what our country's doing now in Iraq. Actually, it's better than most punk songs...

Seen your concert at Woodstock Rocks on 8/19/2006.(Was only there to listen to you, as your songs have meaning, for those who have the ability to feel music!!!) Have listened to your songs since "god was a baby" not really , since about 1974!! Fortunate son was one of the songs played at my sons funeral,(the first) amongst others: ACDC, Kansas, Bon Jovi, Metallica & many others!!(All songs played were what he listened to & had CD's for) My son was 19 when he died and he was NEVER a fortunate son!! But, he had what it took, no matter how Bad it was(with his father) he never gave up, he never asked for money, he earned it himself, from the age of 12 he worked!!!He slept from the age of 2 weeks from 6:30pm til 6:30am, never had the terrible twos, was always loving, giving & selfless to others!!!He was BEAUTIFUL!!! Everyone in school, local stores, businesses, family & friends said, (long before he died) that, no matter how bad they were feeling, on any given day, that Sam always made them feel better about themselves & gave them hope, with his amazing sense of humor, beautiful smile & amazing sense of their pain!!! So selfless & so young, what an amazing ability!!! When he died, there was not enough room at the calling hours for all,(even his orthodondist came, had never met a child like Sam.Had his braces off 4 years earlier) so we had the funeral in the school gymnasium, small community, over 800 people at his funeral!! Very difficult without him, but I have truly learned the meaning of:::ONLY THE GOOD DIE YOUNG!!!And I have learned that GOD judges us all on only one thing::"WHO WE ARE" & therefore (as his headstone reads) "FOREVER TRUST IN "WHO" YOU ARE!!So Many songs my sons(Sam & Kyle) & I have enjoyed & still enjoy, that have very deep feeling for us!!! Especially, Fortunate Son, Have You Ever Seen Rain & Candle In the Window!!!I salute you & your ability!!! Will listen to your music daily(Have all of your CD's) until I go to be with my SAM!!! And, just so you know, I have pre-selected my funeral music!!!!! Candle in The Window is First & Have You Ever Seen Rain is Next!!!! God Bless You, as your Music has a point & FEELING, for those that can feel it!!!!!I THANK YOU, for your music!!! It has helped Kyle & I get through!!!! You are truly "GIFTS FROM GOD!!!" Always keep it meaningfull!!!! You TRULY(those now & then)Have my RESPECT,ADMIRATION & TRUST in what you do!!! NEVER EVER THINK IT DOESN"T MATTER!! And, as Coolio whould say "SEE YOU WHEN YOU GET THERE!!!! Thanks Again & Always Jody M. Brownly
Oh Lord,It aint fair at all.How much more(Bloodbath)? | Reviewer: Frank Lee | 7/7/06
I used to listen to this song way before I could even understand English let alone the meaning of it when I was a young refugee kid from a war torn country- Cambodia, who was locked in a refugee camp in Thailand. Now I that I came to think of it over and over, I realized that we are living in a world of unjustice and imbalance because of some particular self interest and greedy and rational decisive political party/organisation or figure. As a result, the weakest and poorest price an ultimate price. And I totally agree that most of these days' songs dont have any meaning at all. Frank- Australia.
