I swear. Every single time i listen to this song I think of my past relationships. One in particular. I was with this guy - my "friends" convinced me to go out with him - and i began to like him: "Yeah, I saw sparks." but when my "friends" thought it was boring or something ONCE again they controlled my life and made me break up with him. I will never let them do that to me again. And I still like him. But I broke his heart; I deserve to be hurt. And he deserves better than me. It is a song that everyone can connect to, male or female, in or out of a relationship. I am really reminded of the desire to be forgiven when the lyrics “But I know I was wrong and I won't let you down” pop up. Everyone makes mistakes, yet sometimes it’s that one mistake, that one uh-oh, that ruins everything. I know I feel terrible when I make a mistake, and I hurt someone’s feelings without intending to. I may not express it, but I really want that person’s forgiveness, as it is forgiveness that makes one at peace. Coldplay definitely shows the desire and want for forgiveness, as the singer is obviously a fool in love with who he is singing about, but he made a mistake that drove her away. Another aspect of the song I love is the mention of sparks. Sparks, when used in electricity and technical terms, is the signal of a connection. Sometimes, something special occurs, where a spark is large enough to jump through the air to create a current to something else without needing a conductor or physical connection. This is called an arc. I think this song speaks of that special connection that you can feel with someone else from just looking into his/her eyes. I know I felt this connection when I looked into my ex-girlfriend’s eyes.
