Cheap Trick is simply incredible, still incredible that is! | Reviewer: Johnboy Martin | 10/10/2006
Boy Howdy to all!
I had the priveledge in my younger rocking years to open for Cheap Trick at the Marion Popcorn Festival somewhere in Ohio. I learned quickly that this band took no prisoners. They were serious musicians, and they still are.
The 70's Show theme and their steroidic rendition of In the Strret, is meteoric. Contrast and compare to the earlier version sung by Axel Rose. Axl and whoever the band were simply pulled up lame. Flat notes, very shallow guitar sound. Just doesn't rock.
Examples of sonic candy..... Rick Nielsen's crunching godzilla guitar and the mega miles he gets out of pontificating and augmenting a Dmajor chord, well he is Unrelenting. The six string bass plays the 3rd and 5th harmony. Wow! Zander has always had the gift of being able to make you believe with his voice that you heard this song before, even if you hadn't. Bun E Carlos has a separate killer drum sound pre-programmed for each and every song. Listen to the man make thunder with his sticks. Check out the new album Rockford. They still have it! Sorry Axl. You were a pawn in a marketing machine.
