..for a daughter or a lover.. what a wonderful song. if someone dedicatesthis lovely song to me i'd cry.. the lyrics makes me wonder.. i feel sad for my dad (he's in heaven) and my ex boyfriend.. :s .. sad song but really very beautiful!

I feel that this song is written to a woman, a daughter or a lover and it's telling her that the world is cruel and that she should be careful but still he never say that this world is horrible just that she should be careful, that's why it's so fucking wonderful .

i just heard this song for the very first time today, and i was totally moved and i think the woman he thought about(you will come across her name if you read wikipedia for instance..) when he was writing this song is truly lucky person, that someone loved her this much and wrote this beautiful song..

As a middle-school teacher, I can see where the lyrics to this song could apply to my students. As a parent, I can see how these lyrics apply to my kids--they do. As someone who has his share of failed relationships, I can see how this song is about the break up of a love relationship. It makes me think of my former wife as we were in high school when this song was first released by Cat Stevens. According to Wikipeida.com Cat Stevens wrote this song in response to his departing girlfriend/lover. The beautiful thing about art and music is that they are open to interpretation. Certainly that applies here.

since 1995, I've heard this song,but I had no idea what was talking about,because I didin't know english, so I had to learn english , now I know and I've thought a lot about it , cause I have two litlle girls.. its really a wild world out there..they are growing and I know what to say to them through this song... its so nice !
