------ performed by Cat Stevens
Lesson for Father's Day | Reviewer: CliveC | 6/22/2008Guys, the REAL issue here is the content of the lyrics. It played on the radio a couple of times in the months when my wife was expecting our child, when I held him for the first time and we were alone together I sung him some of the words and promised him I'd do my best. I thank God that that both he & I & Mum have done very well together.

Sorry people, Cat Stevens never recorded the Harry Chapin hit, Cat's in the Cradle. During the mid 1970s to mid 80s I worked for WEA Records( Warner Brothers) and CBS Columbia Records, now called SONY. Although he was under contract with A&M Records, I did have the pleasure of meeting Cat Stevens twice. I assure you he didn't record Cat's in the Cradle for A&M Records. However in 1978,London Records release a "best of" set in England called, London Collector: Cat's Cradle. I think that might be where the confusion started. Hope this helped.
enough | Reviewer: casey | 3/6/2008
Cat Stevens NEVER sang this song. Period. If you believe that Cat Stevens sang this song please provide a little more proof than "Limewire says it's Cat Stevens". I challenge everybody here to provide the name of the supposed Cat Stevens album where this song appeared. If you are not prepared to provide this proof then just shut the f*ck up, because you obviously have no idea what you are talking about.

Cat sang the song, thats fact. | Reviewer: Chris Currin | 2/10/2008
In the 1970's my 6th grade class played a record at recess time with Cat Stevens' name and face on the album cover. We played the song "Cats in the cradle" repeatedly from that album. No mistake about that.Yes Harry wrote it,but like other songs, other artists sing them, not just the one who wrote them.
Where is it? | Reviewer: Phil | 1/13/2008
So after reading the comments about this, a Harry Chapin song, I immediately understood the confusion. Yes, almost every copy of this song shared over Limewire and the such have it mislabeled as Cat Stevens when in fact it was one of the numerous versions recorded by Chapin (I have an extension Chapin collection and can even provide date and location of recording for any version presented to me).
But, what if Cat Stevens did actually perform it and what if there are recordings of it out there? If that's the case, which some of you lead me to believe, I wanted it. So I spent the past two months looking for a legitimate C.Stevens recording of this song and have been unable to locate one.
Limewire and it's ilk aside, there is also no Cat Stevens recording on iTunes, there is no Cat Stevens recording on MP3.com and, perhaps the one place that now has the most impact, no recording on Amazon.com (their latest deal provides them with all major recording companies catalogs). Of the 350+ copies I downloaded from elsewhere which were credited as being Cat Stevens, not a single one was. Most commonly found were copies of the version on Chapins "Greatest Stories..." album and I did, infact, find a recording from a benefit concert held at a Huntington, Long Island (where Chapin lived) school.
If you seriously do have a Cat Stevens recording, please provide me with details on where I can go to buy it as it would definitely be something I would want for my collection. Unfortunately, until someone does actually provide me with such info (accurate), my 2 month+ search leaves me to conclude that there is no such recording.
real reason for confusion | Reviewer: old rocker guy who has a clue | 1/10/2008
No, Cat Stevens never did cover this song. The source of this confusion is (take it from me, I'm an old guy) in 1978 Cat Stevens made a special album (yeah that's one of those black vinyl things that you have to turn over to hear the other side) kind of a greatest hits version. The name was London Collector: Cat's Cradle. It had 10 cuts on it....
1. Matthew and Son
2. I Love My Dog
3. Here Comes My Baby
4. Baby Get Your Head Screwed On
5. Moonstone
6. The First Cut Is the Deepest
7. Come on Baby (Shift That Log)
8. Kitty
9. Northern Wind
10. Bring Another Bottle Baby
And from the name Cat's Cradle, people just ran with the Cat's in the Cradle nonsense 'cuz "they heard it somewhere before, I swear"....too much acid in their diet I guess. (yeah, another trip back for you....acid was way before ecstasy... and much better) So, all you supposed "Yusuf" experts (who probably don't even know the Cat's real name unless they wiki it...I'll save you the trouble, it's Steven Demetre Georgiou)shut up........
stupid people | Reviewer: Anonymous | 12/10/2007
"Many people mistakenly believe the song to be the work of artist Cat Stevens, and a mistitled MP3 version is widely circulated on the internet. Jack Black contributed to this confusion, playing part of the song in a Saturday Night Live sketch where Black's character claimed the song was by Cat Stevens. There are no known, verifiable recordings of Cat Stevens performing the song however, and a Cat Stevens fan web site assures readers that Stevens has never performed the song, "not live, not in the studio, and not even privately".
That shit is copy-pasted from wikipedia. i hope this settles all the arguements that cat stevens did this song. anyone who thinks he performed this song is a very naive person. you don't know shit about yusuf. if you still don't believe he didn't sing this, go on his website and see for yourself you dumb bastards.
I am lost!!! | Reviewer: Big Rick | 11/14/2007
Ok now you guys have me so damn confused!!! All I would like to know is ( who is on first) :) I think it was a Harry Cat that sung this song!!
Harry Chapin | Reviewer: Anonymous | 11/10/2007
Chapin performed it, his wife wrote it. The song was featured one the 100 greatest 1 hit wonders on VH1, and the world received conformation that this fact was indeed valid. End the controversy ill informed 'Cat' enthusiasts.
