The Reviews about Pepper (page 3/ 5)
------ performed by Butthole Surfers

Moments of Peeked Awareness | Reviewer: Anonymous | 8/10/08

The lyrics of the verses list ten characters and describes how each either dies or escapes a brush with death. The incidents, whether brought about by idiotic recklessness or meaningless bad luck, finds the victim romanced or invigorated by facing death.
The lyrics of the chorus mention vivid sense memories of close physical human contact, but center on moments painful self-consciousness when one looks back and realizes that one's self-image at the time was not being shared.
The relationship between the lyrics and title is not made clear, nor is the exact connection between the different types of peeked awareness presented in the different sections.

found something out | Reviewer: Buckwheat | 7/20/08

So, I was on here reading everyone's reviews about the cinnamon and Saugary part awhile back and didn't know whether to think it was heroine (like some of you said) or what; this question was soon after answered for me.
A buddy and me were out playing frisbee golf in our local park and just happen to be drinking while we were playing; one of the local pro's walked up to say hi and when he got over close to us he said "shew, boys! Thats some strong cinnamon you all are wearing today" I asked him why he said that and he informed us that Cinnamon is what the old timers (he is about 55) would always say the could smell on someones breath when they were referring to alcohol. (or in the songs case, what they could taste on their lips)
As for the sugary, well, we use to refer to cocaine as sugary and Im sure that there are also people who use that word to talk about H ... or it could just be a really really good grateful dead reference :)

People are stupid. | Reviewer: Cheryl (NOLA) | 6/25/08

This song does definitely kick ass and has been doing it for many years. If this clears up anything, Heroin does not taste cinnamon and sugary. Its bitter! And has a very strong odor, but not sweet AT ALL. I should know, I've snorted/shot enough. But thats the past. The song IS indeed about death. People who are young AND stupid. I realize this because I was that young stupid person. The fountain, fountain of youth... Basically these people were just free-spirited and don't understand they are young and have their whole life ahead of them.

Drugs? | Reviewer: uh-huh | 5/22/08

jesus, butthole surfers (remember when we had to call them bhs? that was fucking pathetic) songs don't have subliminal messages, Tool songs have subliminal messages. There may be a reference to a bit of the ol' horse in here, but its not an anti-drugs song, its about people who grow up with the idea of death and taking it too far.

Whoever said its a common teenage ailment is correct, thats all its about

duh | Reviewer: Charlotte | 2/5/08

Yeah this song is about death AND heroine. i mean, really. read the effin lyrics people. and if you dont catch the part about the heroine than go get some or go smell the person thats on some cuz it smells sorta like cinnamon and whatnot.

Backwards | Reviewer: anonymous | 2/4/08

To the person that said they hear a backwards part in it, they are right. I played the song backwards and I do hear some of the song forward, when played backwards. The part in the song where it sounds like someone is like speaking jibberish, between where it says "I don't mind the sun sometimes" and "Another Mikey took a knife" is where stuff is backwards. In between those two parts, while being played backwards, it clearly says,"I don't mind the sun sometimes the images it shows, you never know just how you look through other peoples eyes." The beginning when it sounds like random nothingness, backwards, it actually sounds like a real guitar peice. This song is awesome, backwards and forwards. I love it.

Heroin | Reviewer: Billy Roberts | 1/12/08

Actually it is about heroin. The reference to "I can taste you on my lips and smell you in my clothes cinnamon and sugary" if you've ever been around anyone on heroine, it smells sorta like sweet cinnamon. It doesn't have to SAY something in the song to actually be about it. In the early 90's there was sort of a heroin epidemic in texas. Thats where the death and dying thing comes in... living the life of a junkie leads to death.

Pretty kickasss. | Reviewer: Cassi | 1/6/08

I just listened to this song for the first time today, and I'm in love with it.
My oldest brother and his friend made a drunk driving video and they put this song at the end of it.
Hopefully I'll be able to talk them into putting the video up on YouTube, if that plan works out, I'll come back here and post the URL for you guys.
(No, it's not a boring&stupid video, it's actually something that young drivers would pay attention to and enjoy)

Yes, they're a real band | Reviewer: Janessa | 12/10/07

They're a punk band from the 80s. The song is unique among most of their stuff, but it does indeed kick *ss. And for whoever said aids/heroin: no it is about death. It is about teenage kids in Texas who are all in love with Death and do stupid stuff because they're all infatuated with the idea of it. It is a common teen ailment, apparently. I remember suffering from that condition as a teen myself.

:D | Reviewer: courtney | 12/6/07

i love this song.
and when i heard it, i looked under beck.
but then i asked someone who told me enough of the lyrics to find it.
this is just so unique!
