Agreed. This song is about death. Nothing is as easy as death, nothing will set you free like death, and we can only be so lucky as to die. To get into what is next. What that is, no one is for sure. Heaven, a forever dream, nothingness. whatever the case. I talked to conor at a show, and this is the answer he gave me.

I love this song so, so much. Conor write's so beautifully. The song makes me so much less scared of death.
The verse:
"Don't be a criminal in this police state
You better shop and eat and procreate
You got vacation days then you might escape
To a condo on the coast."
I just love it. He's saying that problems will arise, but you can beat those and keep re-doing it till you get it right. Don't beat yourself up over everything. When finnaly you procreate, things will be alright.

its about a couple things. um. mainly i think its about questioning the after life and if this life is worth it. alot of this requires a backround knowledge. like 'listening to and endless static sea' is about a machine that was created to listen to tthe decised. and 'pointing guns at anything that moves' is a metaphor for punishment in freedom of speech or assasination etc; and living in a robotic society 'you better shop and eat and pro create.'....but then again what do i know. im 15.
Ignorance vs. Knowledge | Reviewer: kittenjain | 4/16/09
I think this song is about ignorance. Knowing better and seeing nothing but rampant intolerance all around you. I think it is almost comforting though, like knowledge and wisdom are easy, lucky and free. Don't pity ignorant people because it is not so much about them- it is about the fact that you are lucky that you know better. "There is nothing as lucky, as easy or free" as knowledge.
Existential Angst | Reviewer: Skeetweasel | 3/26/09
Caleb -
I do not believe this really has anything to do with God. If you look at it on the surface then yes, but this is a song, you can't take anything to be literal.
I think this song was written to as a way to relieve existential angst, simple as that.

I think its more about death being freedom. Meaning there is nothing as easy, lucky, or free as death. I dont think its about God or Heaven but more about how death is freedom from worry, and how death is easy but living is hard.
Re: Caleb's post. | Reviewer: stephanie | 11/4/08
I don't believe it's about believing in god. But more so the death and coping with it. And heaven being metaphorical because you're right. All we are certain of is death.. so more so a heaven is being with the ones you lost and loved. so don't cry for the dead cause now there with all the ones that they have lost in the past.
DEATH | Reviewer: Caleb | 7/31/08
This shows how great death will be. Its not the end but just the beginning so don't weep for the ones who have past cause the only thing that is certain in life is death. The question is do you believe in God to join them there.
