through much confab and cogitation of all of oberst's poems, i have come to recognize that everyone paints their own picture behind the verses while often times disregarding the thoughts of the original artist which in some ways is disrespectful to the song itself. On other hand the key is to not overanalize music and just let it sink in to heart because there is no one true meaning calculated synonymously as the product of an equation because by essence it is art even though some of his work doesnt abide by ordinary aesthetic priciples. This song is ironically, far from the norm because the tone is unusually manic.
mainstream is easylistening; very annoying. | Reviewer: mL | 11/13/07
the only reason "going mainstream" is bad is that the average person, and specifically the average radio listener, does not bother to use their brain when listening to music.
The only way bright eyes could be mainstream is if connor stopped using his genious brain and forced himself to stop writing at one simple, catchy line, and repeat it throughout an entire song.
That is why being played on the radio is not often indicative of a song-writer's success.
Bright eyes, thank you for not being "mainstream".

This is my favorite song probably of all time. I never had a problem understanding the meaning of the lyrics.
reasoning? | Reviewer: Anonymous | 9/19/07
i doubt anyone here thinks for a second theyve got this song figured out. its just so much more convenient for my psyche to see it as inspirational. feels like an epiphany. and so, it is one.
anyway, thats what you get if you take it at face value...

I think everyone has their own interpretation of this song. Or any song, actually. That's the great and beautiful thing about music. It can be about anything and everything you want it to be about. There's no right answer, no black and white, only gray area. :]
Just thought I'd throw that out there.
Wow.. | Reviewer: Chelsea | 7/8/07
One of my very good friends sent me the lyrics to this song when I was having a rough day. I burst into tears. Its such a beautiful song. Everytime I hear it, no matter my mood, I can't help but smile.
It's simple | Reviewer: Anonymous | 7/10/07
Don't look too deep into it. Supporting people. Staying with people, the true beauty in a world that can seem so ugly. Seeing things in this light instead of darker ones.
