The Reviews about At The Bottom Of Everything (page 2/ 5)
------ performed by Bright Eyes

Rebirth? | Reviewer: Anonymous | 3/4/09

So, when I listened to the song, I was grappling with the idea of it rather than the lyrics of it. This song isn't about suicide. And it isn't about dying on your birthday. It's about letting a part of yourself die and being reborn.

It's like, you're letting some false self, a self that worries about third world countries you can't pronounce and talking on the phone and worrying about stupid things, crash into the ocean, and instead you plunge into something much greater. It's like you get to see who you really are. You blend into life with everyone and everything else and leave behind the facade of some ego-built self of property and privilege.

It's really an amazing song and his lyrics are amazing. I could be completely wrong. In fact, I very well might be. But it makes sense to me that way. Maybe it does to you too.

People talk in circles. | Reviewer: Anonymous | 2/11/09

In more or less broken english, it is condescending to try to ask someone to interpret and analyze their taste according to one "musician's" theory. Musician is to genera is to race is to class. Not even the word musician is real or tangible; it is a word to help make learning and categorizing easier.
Furthermore, how can you decolorize your struggle as an artist feeling categorized, by opening your statement by correcting someone by calling Bright Eyes "Indie Rock" (not indee rock).

The internal artist's struggle of being placed in a category or genera, is a self made problem.

Love It | Reviewer: lizzzzie | 1/16/09

i love the thought that the day you die is your birthday.
this song is so amazing.
death is so inevitable and so generally feared by all, its so different and wonderful to hear about accepting it and embracing it
bright eyes' best song. period.

indee rock guys | Reviewer: Luke | 12/12/08

this band is indee rock guys but i agree with the idea of not limiting yourself to a genre its stupid, its music thus it is just music no fricken genres. I am a musician and wouldnt want my music to be labled as a genre it just music. Its art, its expressing yourself through music, thats what musicians do sometimes ever think about that hmm? maybe its an expression of a sad death of someone they know or a depiction of what they think death might be like. And to movingmidwest suicide is not something to be proud of its a sign of mental problems dude and you need to seek help. your a moron if you think suicide is the answer to all your problems.

huh | Reviewer: ch9 | 12/8/08

at first the song freaked me out. i hate the idea of such a catastrophic death, so sudden and w/o warning. but then i thought, oh well! if this happens, best thing to do is prepare to our best abilities and make the best of it. i love the celebration in this song. the cheers of the people on the way to their death. its so... refreshing. what a great band. im not exactly emo but i dont care about labeling like that, this bands music is so real.

Babes. Your not EMO | Reviewer: sarahSABOTAGE | 11/13/08

I love the posers on here by the way. Just cause you say your emo doesnt mean you are. Your people. Why limit yourself?
Thats what this song is aobut. People limiting other people. He wants us to break loose, live life to the fullest, dont listen to anybody, be yourself! The video relates because if your in that situation, instead of being afraid be happy! Dont be scared like everyone else, celebrate your life! Well, thats what it means to me...

mad world | Reviewer: loveloveshine | 10/11/08

I think what he wants to say is that we are fixed to a mad world and that the way we are raised tells us that there are hunderts of things that we ought to do according to everybody else
but that it all just boils down that we will never perfectly fit into this picture and that we will turn as mad as this world is if we don´t step up
I think he just uses death as a symbol for the change to the better
and this story aboutt he girl in the beginning is just a symbol to show us how it all can end in the matter of a second
and how mad this world really is

and I don´t care whether bright eyes are emo or not
I listen to music and not to genres

I love these words. | Reviewer: movingmidwest | 9/14/08

As a seasoned emu, I happen to know a lot about music (because it happens to be my forte) and love dashboard confessional and brand new. However, this new band and their deliberate twang sends me into such a frenzy that I almost laugh while I kill myself. (Which I have done multiple times, its a bragging right I owe to myself for being such a knowledgable individual.)

I love the depth in the lyrics, I love that you can do what you want with them, and that no matter how you try you can never live someone else's emotion.
I love that after years, I can still relate to the words and still feel unsure about what is meant. I love that I can never bring back the past and as this plane is headed for the ocean all I can do is toast to its descent.

Woooo!!! Reminds me of staind and nickelback, but less hardcore!!!!!!!!!!!!!
yay for emo, and all it stood for.

a song about life. | Reviewer: jo | 9/1/08

This song is not about suicide, i'm not sure where people got that idea.. I mean when he's saying in the cavens of tomorrow we must plunge, he's talking about living isn't he.
we don't know what's going to happen tomorrow but we have to embrace it.
It's conor oberst's view on life, and i don't entirely agree with it. I don'think i really am no one, and i don'thtink that would make me happy. but that doesn't mean i can't appreciate the overall beauty of the song and the wit of the lyrics.
I think it's one of bright eyes best, and i love it.

whoa. | Reviewer: Josh Bailey | 8/25/08

some people just don't get home much amazing skill and insight it takes to right a song of anywhere near this calibar.
he is not telling people to kill themselves, people that instantly take that kind of stand-point on his lyrics are obviously just too scared to actually realize that they too are going to die; the song is about embracing death, singing when the plane is crashing, not running around screaming in fear and dismay because you'll never see your Armani suit again. haha.

by the way, Bright Eyes is not 'emo';
it is bewilderingly stupid to label a song as 'emo' because it speaks of death or any kind of pain. maybe we should label it as 'TRUTH' and bullshit pop music about how much money and clothes people have and how 'sexy' they are as 'LIES'.

open your eyes people.
