But nobody is RIGHT or WRONG in the meaning of this song. Songs and poems mean different things to different people. Most lyrics are written, open to interpretation. The most beautiful lyrics are those that everyone can relate to, and put in to context with their own lives. Guernica is a city in the northern Basque region of Spain, now called Gernika-Lumo. During the Spanish Civil War, Nazi Fascists launched Operation Rugen against the Spanish Nationalists, bombing the city of Guernica. The air raid was extensive and cause numerous civilian casualties. It is noted historically for the gruesome way the target was non-militaristic, but civilian. Years later, Picasso did a painting of the scene of the bombing of Guernica. The painting is chaotic and sad, depicting the bombing as horrible and gruesome; something no one should have to go through. I think it relates to the song in that it mirrors the way Jesse felt, being in such a helpless and horrible situation. At least, thats my interpretation.
