The Devil and God Are Raging Inside Me | Reviewer: zachary Mckenna | 11/23/09

To say that this album has no religious ties is being completely ignorant. It's blatantly obvious. It really is an amazing portrayal of the troubles, doubts, and fears of following christ. Which in reality it isn't a religion at all. It's a faith. I think this is one of the most brave and real albums that I've ever listened to.

Devil and God are Raging inside me | Reviewer: Dante | 11/5/09

I would conclude that the title of this CD explains the question, if this songs reflects religion. The Devil and God are Raging Inside Me. To me that relects the problems that the band faces with religion, questioning faith, not believing in one's faith, and losing faith. I blieve that the majority of all these songs have some religious plot or subplot.

Get Real People | Reviewer: Jawnson | 10/19/09

This and most of the songs in the album the Devil and God are raging inside of me have numerous references to the Bible in it. If Jesse thought religion is "False and let him down" Why the hell would he sing so much about it??

The likely hood of Jesse being a struggling Christian is most likely the answer (He has a song titled "Jesus Christ" listen to the lyrics!), just look at the facts people! You're all getting offended that someone as "cool" as Jesse would sing about God or religion. So what if he has morals he's dealing with??
And guess what? Religion, whether we believe it or not, is an issue we all have to deal with in our lives at some point, if not now then at your deathbed.

Millstone and my LIFE. | Reviewer: Aaron | 9/28/09

I can really relate to these lyrics and I love it! It really makes me think about what I believe in; whether I want to be a Christian or take my chances; what I do right now, and how I'm going to look back to it in 10 years, 20 years, -60 years...

It seems you've been assuming to much. | Reviewer: [atomi|c|adaver] | 9/8/09

Hmm. You people should search your derivations before projecting your thoughts onto others. The name of the album came from a conversation Jesse Lacey had with a friend regarding Daniel Johnston, a musician who suffers from schizophrenia and bipolar disorder. Basically, when he was asked how he felt, he replied something to the effect of 'like the devil and god are raging inside me.' It's not necesarily based on religion, but mental disorders and insanity... In retrospect, they're pretty much the same.

a response to Jesse is a Christian | Reviewer: Ryan | 3/22/09

Jesse went to a christian high school growing up, thats were he most likely read the Bible. It is obvious by listening to The Devil and God are Raging Inside Me (JUST LOOK AT THE TITLE!!) that Jesse was, and is, struggling with his religous beliefs.

no one on this page should dictate what jesse lacey is feeling. its a great song that makes sense to him. you can tear it apart and try to make sense of it because you understand one line but everyone will believe what they want.

Jesse is a Christian. | Reviewer: ashley | 2/15/09

Jesse shows that in this song that he does read the Bible. There is no way that a non-believer would know all the references of the Bible like he does. Either he is falling from Grace or struggling hard to maintain a life with Christ. A lot of his listeners don't believe in God or are in a point in their lives that they don't know if religion is a lie or they've also fallen from the truth. This song has a lot of meaning to it and if you're going to listen to it be open-minded of what he says and what he believes. Also what you should believe and what's right for you...

Another response to save my life tonight and pff | Reviewer: Anonymous | 12/2/08

This song definitely is christian related and i will show why, but it is hard to explain what the song fully means so i will tell what i think it means and try my hardest to explain it. In which either the song is about Jesse falling away from God when he doesn't want to or if he is losing his beliefs about God, I can not fully tell. The whole song is about how he has become a bad person and very sinful. The song talks about all the bad things that he has caused such as how he is the reason why his friends don't talk, how he used to be a good example etc. I am really not sure if the song is about jesse falling away from christian beliefs because of the following track on the album which is Jesus Christ. Jesus Christ explains and talks about how he is scared to die and wondering what will happen after dies. I am assuming he believes in Jesus Christ for he assumes he is going to heaven by saying the lyrics "and at the gates does thomas ask to see my hands"(thomas as in one of Jesus' disciples),"Do I get the gold chariot, Do I float through the ceiling" (in this, he wonders how God will take him). This is why I think he does believe in God and is not falling away from beliefs in Christ. Back to the song Millstone, this song is definitely christian related one exampe is the lyrics " a millstone around my neck". I am pretty postive that Jesse is refering to a bible passage as he has done in others song. Specifically I think he is referring to Luke 17:1-3 which directly states the following " Jesus said to his disciples: 'Things that cause people to sin are bound to come, but woe to that person through whom they come. It would be better for him to be thrown in the sea with a millstone tied around his neck than for him to cause one of these little ones to sin. So watch yourselves'." The important part of this bible verse that is related to the song is when Jesus tells his disciples that it is better for a man to tie a millstone around his neck and drown in the sea than to cause another to sin. I think jesse is trying to say how he has been causing others to sin so he should instead tie a millstone around his neck. Also I think jesse is trying to say in the lyrics "{If you'd} be my breath, there's nothing I wouldn't give" he is trying to say that if God will save him (from drowning with a millstone around his neck) there is nothing he wouldn't give. Well overall I think he is a Christian and wrote this song in a tough time in his life when he has been falling away from God but not losing his beliefs in God.

response to "save my life tonight" | Reviewer: Anonymous | 11/18/08

i really doubt Jesse is a struggling christian. I think that he is expressing through these lyrics that he used to believe in christianity, and after many negative experiences, is thoroughly realizing that the religion is false and has let him down. Hence the line "I used to pray when God was listening."
