I think that he is expressing through these lyrics that he used to believe in christianity, and after many negative experiences, is thoroughly realizing that the religion is false and has let him down. Hence "the ship of fools im on will sink". I really like the part "now iv made this bed and cant fall asleep in it". I too am a struggling christian. I know what i should do but have trouble doing what is right. Its amazing how much a person could mess up and live such a dirty life but God still loves us. Many people think they have messed up so bad they cant be forgiven. I think thats how Jesse feels.
