It's not contradictory at all, and I find it a bit stupid that you're saying that.

"Just saying that in response to some reviews where people claim to be Christians yet they have no idea what they have to look forward to."

It's not that they don't know what they have to look forward to, anyone who's read the bible or believes in God whatever the fuck it is you do, you know what you can look forward to. The song isn't about that it's about actually getting it, not everyone is going to end up in heaven or wherever else you might believe to end up at.

I believe in God and this song describes my feelings perfectly, fact of the matter is that even though I believe and I have faith I don't know for sure if I'll end up in heaven or any place else - it's not the fear of death it's the fear of what comes after. No one knows for sure and it is entirely possible you could end up somewhere bad. I hope that I don't, but that doesn't change the fact that it's a personal fear of mine.

Being a Christian means you know Jesus(God) or you are getting to know him(and if that's true then you can't wait to be wih him from the little bit you've seen, or the loads you have learned)...Dying means you'll be with him...so...Dying and the afterlife should not be scary if you are a Christian...Just saying that in response to some reviews where people claim to be Christians yet they have no idea what they have to loook forward to. Just seems like a pretty big contradiction. Should probably focus a little more on the relationship and a little less on the religion.

jesses just questioning things. | Reviewer: Sabrina | 3/17/08

well like I said, in this whole album "The Devil And God Are Raging Inside Me" hes questioning faith, and in this song he questions if there is an after life and what will it be like. I mean we all do it. I'm a christian and..I'm very scared of what it will be like.
I agree with that one annoynomous review, its a plea, Jesus if your there than give me a sign.
and maybe he is saying solve your own problems. even if u are a christian its fine to ask God for help ofcourse but dont expect him to solve every little (or big) problem you have. If you do that, its not that faith screws you over. you screw yourself over. God wants you to learn to solve your own problems, not cuz you dont have faith that God can't, but because you need to learn how to do this, things like this bring you wisdom and knowledge, and God tells you to seek those things.

crap. didnt mean to preach to anyone. but w/e thats what I think of this song. I dont think its that hard to figure that out, atleast thats what I see. he's just questioning things, simple. then again who knows, I guess we'll never completely know what he's saying, cuz he wrote it. maybe somewhere theres a video where he explains what the albums about.:)

Its not a "Christian" Song! | Reviewer: Chris | 3/9/08

sure its called jesus christ but the line what did you do the three days you were dead because this problem is gonna last more than the weekend. is saying that why should you rely on christ to solve all your problems it means solve your own fuckin problems!!! this is not even close to a christian rock song its a song about faith and how it fucks you over sometimes and also it questions if there is an afterlife!!

its good | Reviewer: baldo | 3/10/08

i got through about two of the reviews above and i dont think that any of us has a correct understanding of the song becouse we didnt wright it, all i can say is that its a good song (not my favorite song on the album by far) in closing i would like to state that this album brings me to my knees i listen to it everyday and have bin doing so for a while . it discribes all the things im feeling and have felt since ive had to grow up. and if anyone who reads this agrees with what ive just said well, your a badass person lol but yeah.

SONGMASTER | Reviewer: Colton | 3/5/08

Just read what "2011" (who also called himself "738234") said above.. he's got it all right. "Look guys," definitely got a little off course with some of his interpretation. Bottom line, it doesn't really matter, but OBVIOUSLY this song is "religous," though i'm not sure it's the best christian song. I do think the song is very creative in all of its allusions to the Bible, etc. At first i thought the song was sacreligous, so i didn't listen to it much, but after really listening to the lyrics, i changed my mind. good song, accept it. If you get "offended" by a song talking about Jesus/God/heaven, it's because you know (whether you realize it or not) that all of that is true, but you refuse to believe it for fear of what you'll have to give up, and that makes you feel guilty. Which is pathetic, but then we're all 'pathetic' in some ways (@ least I know i am.)

HEY EVERYONE!! | Reviewer: bree<3 | 3/2/08

Yea this song could be about anything, but I think I have a pretty good understanding of it. I could care less what anyone thinks about it or what it is about, but I want to add a little more than opinion, "I like this song, I don't". If you don't see that every event goes together in the song, it's b/c you don't want to see it.

"what did you do those three days you were dead" is referring to Jesus after he was taken off the cross and laid to rest in a tomb where he rose after three days. The question is literally being asked, what did you do during that time? Elijah, a prophet, is believed to be the only person to reach heaven without dying, God simply swept him up on a gold chariot led by three horses of fire. Thomas, one of the 12 apostles of Christ, refers to when Christ rose, before going to Heaven, he met with his apostles to convince them that God and Heaven and the prophecies were true. Thomas was the only one who did not believe and asked Jesus to see his hands for proof that he was who he said he was. Signifying that he might have to prove he is worthy enough to get through the gates of Heaven, but based on the rest of the lyrics, he doubts he will be able to show proof he is good enough. Some last few points, Jesus says, when you sin, you crucify Christ again, therefore, when he lies, like Peter did, who was trusted as another one of the 12 apostles, he will crucify Christ again. "Do think that I'm someone you can trust"?, is referring to Peter. Finally, "Do I divide and pull apart", in my opinion, can mean two things of a million possibilities. One, after Christ died, the Bible says the Temple's veil tore apart in two, the graves opened up and the saints came out, and there was a huge earthquake, the earth pulling apart and the veil dividing. It could be referring to this, or possibly even to meiosis. When we are born, chromosomes are duplicated pulled apart and half combos of one parents chromosomes are put into 4 daughter cells. I won't go into the whole biological explaination, but this is essentually how we are born. I think maybe it is referring to how go come into this world is how we go out. done

Neutral...like Switzerland | Reviewer: Hanna | 2/20/08

The music is amazing and immediately puts me in a contemplative mood. The lyrics only add to it. It's open for interpretation, as is the majority of music, but arguing about it just seems childish. Appreciate the music and lyrics in your own way. If you're so passionate about it, why do the opinions of other matter so much?

I am not a religious person, but I've read other people's comments and appreciate your explanations/interpretations.

Bottom line is: great song.

So, I do think it is spiritual, but really..I mean if you don't want it to be you don't have to see it that way, I do..
Honestly, all of their CD's have very different themes. They're a very straightforward portrayal of how someone changes throughout their life.
So..to sum this all up, religious or not, you guys are totally contradicting the song, and the whole album by arguing. :)

Look guys | Reviewer: Anonymous | 2/18/08

I know it must be hard for you to believe..
this song IS spiritual, this whole album is spiritual.
The evidence is there.. sorry if it makes you uncomfortable or you feel the need to argue about it.
It's not like he is saying, jesus come for me I love you, it's more like a plea... you know jesus...if you're up there...then this whole thing might be worth it..but what if you're not and it's all just a waste...
=====Interpretation/Opinion=====
"when I arive I won't know anyone"
he could be the only one he knows going to heaven?
"So what did you do those three days you were dead?
Cause this problem's gonna last more than the weekend."
what is going to heaven like, cause I'm gunna be stuck there
"Well, Jesus Christ, I'm not scared of dying,
I'm a little bit scared of what comes after"
what's going to happen when I die..
"And at the gates does Thomas ask to see my hands"
If heaven exists... will I get in?
"I know you're coming in the night like a thief
But I've had some time, O Lord, to hone my lying technique
I know you think that I'm someone you can trust
But I'm scared I'll get scared and I swear I'll try to nail you back up"
Well if he does ask to see my hands when you come for me I'll be able to trick him...you know I wanna believe you and let you come for me, but what if I think I'm wrong and just abandon you again?
"So do you think that we could work out a sign
So I'll know it's you and that it's over so I won't even try"
IS there some way you could say you're real and that i have screwed up too much to go to heaven so I can just know now whether changing is worth it

Christ Alone | Reviewer: Anonymous | 2/15/08

Living in the world apart from Christ is living in darkness, sin and eternal death. We all long for someone to 'save' us, help us, strengthen us in our troubles, because we were created by a higher being, whoes mind we cannot fathom, but we can try. Don't just read the Bible, consume it; for that is where true life begins and you will find peace flowing like a river. For that is God The Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. It is us who forsake Him, not Him forsaking us. We give up too easily and that's just what the "Devil Satan" wants. So keep searching the Word (Jesus) in the Christian Bible (not the imitators)and open your hearts to the truth and He will set you free and save you. That is all this life is about that matters. Amen

Up doe interpretation | Reviewer: Anonymous | 2/5/08

First of all this song could be about anything, no of us know because none of us wrote it, so its up for interpretation. Also starting off your argument saying that your right and everyone else is wrong just makes you sound like a douchebag. It could be about faith, a girl, a past experience or whatever he wanted it to be so stop thinking your interpretation is the only possible meaning of these words. Also, enjoy all of brand new's heavenly music.

you guys are wasting your time arguing about this
its a song what you hear is your own
you dont have to think what someone else thinks you should care about how the song makes YOU feel personally not care about how someone thinks if its religious or not
when you think about it its kind of pointless making someone else try and think they way you do
you wouldnt like it if they were trying to say what youre saying is wrong now would you?
so pretty much you guys are ruining this amazing song for your selves and everyone else reading
your childish comments because you think its a certain way is right and so and so is wrong because they dont agree with you or your religious veiws
you shouldnt care if you all like the song you should appreciate that everyone else commenting on here does
so lets enjoy this song instead of bitching about it please
