The Reviews about Jesus Christ (page 5/ 23)
------ performed by Brand New

just like thrice, underoath and other "christian bands" | Reviewer: ryan | 11/30/08

brand new (at least the lead singer) has lost their faith. they are a little less subtle about it on this album than the aforementioned bands (thrice: "we are the ones who lost our faith, we dug ourselves an early grave, we are the dead can we be saved?" - just one of many examples.. underoath - "i'm just a fool for you, just a fool for you" and the list goes on). i've noticed a trend in "christian" music and in the church lately. there are many who are faking their belief as to not offend those around them and not burn bridges. people need to start coming to the conclusion that these genius song writers are coming to.. science, history (Mithra and other pre-Christ demigods whose stories mirror the story of Jesus) and just our hearts themselves (do you REALLY prefer to believe that you are going to heaven while billions are going to suffer eternal torment in the lake of fire when there is so much evidence against the Christ story??).

We as humans need to grow some balls so to speak and deal with REALITY. I hope i dont come across too harshly but believe you me there are many other atrocities in this world that deserve my sympathies. Christianity is a mind controlling lie that is intended to lead people to live by a defined moral system via a fictitious story. it is a mind controlling algorithm molded into narrative prose. heaven and hell are the selling points, the payment is simple "faith" which is "dead" without the works..people are being sold into living moral lives. the world is far too advanced governmentally to continue to need such mind controlling lies to help people get along. i am a former Christian who has come to these realizations over the last year or so and they are difficult conclusions to come to - but does not the very "word of God" teach us that truth is of the utmost importance? this generation needs to be responsible and deal with the temporary grief which accompanies a loss of faith in order to pass truth on to future generations so they don't have to go thru the anguish of faith loss. yes, it hurts but again its not like we're being burned at the stake like early christians (nor in eternal hell fire for that matter).

Brand New and the aforementioned bands clearly realize that Christianity is mythos and are choosing to give subtle hints in their lyrics. i believe they also see christianity as a better way of life and potentially a lie worth living (such as Santa Claus for a child) and are therefore remaining subtle as to not destroy anyones faith. but i obviously think differently. truth is what is of the utmost importance in my book. we're adults. so at the very least Christian children need to be raised with options.. atheism, agnosticism, other religious options, rather than having something that is very clearly untrue or at the least EXTREMELY questionable shoved down their throats.

Nay to the suicide. | Reviewer: JON | 11/21/08

This song isn't about suicide. Its about his inner conflict of whether he is worthy enough to get into heaven. In the line "Cause my bright is too slight to hold back all my dark" he is stating that he believes that his good deeds in life will be overshadowed by his sins. "If they don't put me away, It'll be a miracle." Here is referring to his insanity and how if they don't put him in an institution, it'll be a miracle. This is how he will die alone. Because he separates himself from everyone else in his mind because he thinks he's crazy. This belief that he is separate from everyone else, leads him to believe that when he does get to heaven, he "won't know anyone".

Jesus! is right | Reviewer: nope | 11/20/08

this song is not about Jesse thinking about killing himself, yes he says that he will "die alone" but that could mean a numberous amount of things. what i believe this song is about is Jesse thinking about his after life and his newly found relationship with god. meaning he might have not always been really close with him but he knows his time is coming so he is going to be prepaired and try not to be afraid of what is to come.

In my opinion | Reviewer: Anonymous | 11/20/08

I believe this song is definately NOT about suicide, When he says he will die alone he is not refering to killing himself, but to the fact that he is alone, no girlfriend/ friends. Most likely he just got out of a really deep relationship and is now feeling like he will be alone forever. anyone who has experienced that knows thats exactly how it feels. This song has always amazed me as to how closely i could relate to it.

this song has an amazing meaning and it makes me think about my own relationship with god and what will happen to me when i pass on. i have to say this is one of brand new's best songs.

Idiots | Reviewer: Streckerrr | 11/10/08

Jesus is one of my favorite songs ever. But, everyone is missing the point: this song is about Jesse's suicidal thoughts. In other words, it's about killing himself.
"And I will die all alone
And when i arrive I wont know anyone"
This means two things:
A) he will die alone because he is killing himself
B) he won't have anyone in his life to be thankful for, like a wife, after he has done the deed.

To me, this song reflects my own personal problems involving relationships and the fact that I will probably die alone, but of old age.

Don't get me wrong, Jesse won't kill himself. He was just contemplating suicide.

Beautiful | Reviewer: Will | 10/3/08

The song is beautiful, seemingly centering around the fear that controls people's lives, of our actions in this life and their consequences in the next. The confidence that Jesse knows he should feel isn't there to comfort him. Like many people, he doesn't necessarily fear death itself, but the fact that death marks the point of no return, with no chance to change or fix anything. Even if he could change, he feels that his past outweighs any future redemption he might hope to gain. His decisions that he can make in his mind may not be enough to overcome his basic nature and dark desires. He wants to be good, but he doesn't feel like he's good enough to be saved or that he even deserves salvation.

Oh, and Josh, the friend that the title of the Album is based on (Daniel Johnston) is bipolar and AUTISTIC (not Schizophrenic).

amazing song.
jesus christ im alone again so what did you do those three days you were dead? cause this problems gonna last more than the weekend.
-- i think jesses being ironic here. hes despratly looking for help. but also he asks what did you do those three days you were dead and says that its going to last more than the weekend. the weekends two days. haha.

and about the at the gates does thomas ask to see my hands part, jesses refering to doubting thomas. the apostle that asked to see jesus's wounds on his hands from the cross after his resruection because he didnt believe it was really jesus. hes asking if thomas will really believe that hes worthy of getting in to heaven and ask to see the wounds on his hands from his sins and also his perserverence.

just a thought | Reviewer: jay | 9/6/08

Make sure you put down your day rate, how many days it will take to complete the job + expenses (mileage, ect) and seperate the "fee" from the actual "product" you will be giving them. (prints, cd, ect.) that way you will only have to charge taxes on the prints instead of the whole thing. I'd love to see an example of a proper proposal myself! :)
