Nay to the suicide. | Reviewer: JON | 11/21/08
This song isn't about suicide. Its about his inner conflict of whether he is worthy enough to get into heaven. In the line "Cause my bright is too slight to hold back all my dark" he is stating that he believes that his good deeds in life will be overshadowed by his sins. "If they don't put me away, It'll be a miracle." Here is referring to his insanity and how if they don't put him in an institution, it'll be a miracle. This is how he will die alone. Because he separates himself from everyone else in his mind because he thinks he's crazy. This belief that he is separate from everyone else, leads him to believe that when he does get to heaven, he "won't know anyone".

this song is not about Jesse thinking about killing himself, yes he says that he will "die alone" but that could mean a numberous amount of things. what i believe this song is about is Jesse thinking about his after life and his newly found relationship with god. meaning he might have not always been really close with him but he knows his time is coming so he is going to be prepaired and try not to be afraid of what is to come.

I believe this song is definately NOT about suicide, When he says he will die alone he is not refering to killing himself, but to the fact that he is alone, no girlfriend/ friends. Most likely he just got out of a really deep relationship and is now feeling like he will be alone forever. anyone who has experienced that knows thats exactly how it feels. This song has always amazed me as to how closely i could relate to it.

this song has an amazing meaning and it makes me think about my own relationship with god and what will happen to me when i pass on. i have to say this is one of brand new's best songs.
Idiots | Reviewer: Streckerrr | 11/10/08
Jesus is one of my favorite songs ever. But, everyone is missing the point: this song is about Jesse's suicidal thoughts. In other words, it's about killing himself.
"And I will die all alone
And when i arrive I wont know anyone"
This means two things:
A) he will die alone because he is killing himself
B) he won't have anyone in his life to be thankful for, like a wife, after he has done the deed.
To me, this song reflects my own personal problems involving relationships and the fact that I will probably die alone, but of old age.
Don't get me wrong, Jesse won't kill himself. He was just contemplating suicide.
Beautiful | Reviewer: Will | 10/3/08
The song is beautiful, seemingly centering around the fear that controls people's lives, of our actions in this life and their consequences in the next. The confidence that Jesse knows he should feel isn't there to comfort him. Like many people, he doesn't necessarily fear death itself, but the fact that death marks the point of no return, with no chance to change or fix anything. Even if he could change, he feels that his past outweighs any future redemption he might hope to gain. His decisions that he can make in his mind may not be enough to overcome his basic nature and dark desires. He wants to be good, but he doesn't feel like he's good enough to be saved or that he even deserves salvation.
Oh, and Josh, the friend that the title of the Album is based on (Daniel Johnston) is bipolar and AUTISTIC (not Schizophrenic).

amazing song.
jesus christ im alone again so what did you do those three days you were dead? cause this problems gonna last more than the weekend.
-- i think jesses being ironic here. hes despratly looking for help. but also he asks what did you do those three days you were dead and says that its going to last more than the weekend. the weekends two days. haha.
and about the at the gates does thomas ask to see my hands part, jesses refering to doubting thomas. the apostle that asked to see jesus's wounds on his hands from the cross after his resruection because he didnt believe it was really jesus. hes asking if thomas will really believe that hes worthy of getting in to heaven and ask to see the wounds on his hands from his sins and also his perserverence.

Make sure you put down your day rate, how many days it will take to complete the job + expenses (mileage, ect) and seperate the "fee" from the actual "product" you will be giving them. (prints, cd, ect.) that way you will only have to charge taxes on the prints instead of the whole thing. I'd love to see an example of a proper proposal myself! :)

i think he actually sings the lyrics, "we've all got wood and nails, we don't turn out hate factories." i find it to be an uplifting line. i think he's saying that as humans we have the potential to do harm but we choose not to. or maybe that we have all been hurt but remain good and hopeful people. i'm not religious, but i personally really love that line and would love to know what are others thoughts.
self-evident | Reviewer: Anonymous | 8/6/08
I don't feel that this is a song that requires too much analysis. He says it pretty explicitly.
"I will die all alone. And when I arrive I won't know anyone."
He fears that his loneliness on this Earth will be matched in heaven.
This is such an honest song. I'm sure what he says many (myself included) feel.
"I know you think that I’m someone you can trust
But I’m scared I’ll get scared and I swear I’ll try to nail you back up"
The impending End that is supposed to be joyous is terrifying for those struggling. They may find themselves praying for the inevitable to be postponed. Here Jesse is warning Jesus that when he returns he is afraid that he won't be ready to except him and will try to nail him back up to the cross.

Well everyone has interesting points. The song is most certainly questioning what comes after and if he will get to see what's after. He doesn't know, so it scares him. We as humans are scared of what we don't know. Now this whole Christian bit. I think that if you are truely a Christian and have that relationship with God then you will know exactly what comes next.
I think many of us though are afraid we're gonna mess up along our way and hurt ourselves, I sure am. I think that if you ask God for help He'll give it, He wants to. But I think alot of us that do ask are also afraid that we're going to miss his help. That I won't know what it is when it comes. So I think that's the basis of this song.

personally ive taken a deep look into this song for over a year now. Remember this is only my opinion dont critic it just enjoy it or be on with yourself. This song is about Jesse not only questioning life after death but also realizing what obstacles are in the way of achieving everlasting life in heaven. He mentions at one point "does Thomas ask to see my hands" specifically in reference to whether all of his lifes sins will come back to haunt him, basically will they do a background check on his lifes sins. The one line however that truely gets me and if you take anything from this paragraph it should be this. The line "we all got wood and nails." My opinion on this line has changed once, I used to believe that it meant that everyday by not leading a good christian life like Jesus planned for us to do, we crucify Jesus. However, after some deep thought i realized i was wrong and its not Jesus tat we crucify every day by not leading a good life, what does he care our actions do not affect him. We crucify ourselves metaphorically and destroy our relationships weve created here on earth but more importantly our chances of being let in to heaven.

If you are truly a Christian you wont be afraid of life after death because you know were you'll be and if you don't know read your Bible the answer is there... And yes God wants to solve all of your problems every single one of them he doesn't want you to solve any of them on your own, just how your mother was when you were young... It's obvious he just wants answers like any normal human and there is thousands of people who can give them the answer but they are to busy judging them to even listen to their questions... Just truly ask God for answers and he will give them to u how u least imagine... Peace...
The Answer | Reviewer: Josh | 6/20/08
The title of the album, The devil and God are Raging Inside Me, is not the thought of quesitoning faith. Rather, if you were to read anything about Jesse Lacey or this album, the title comes from a famous song writer who was schizophrenic on the worst possible level. He was also bi-polar.
Research before you make conclusions.
An outside view | Reviewer: Ken | 5/27/08
Being non denomination, I can view this song in it's simplest form. It states the one thing all humans (Christian, Buddist, Catholic, or Other) try to find the answer to. Is there something more then here and now, and if so what is it. I think it also begs to ask the question, If you are there Jesus then why do I feel so alone in this world. Remember faith is something you have not something you follow. Its not what you believe but simply that you believe in something. Don't let religion dictate what you believe or what you should have faith in and you will not feel so all alone. Im not preaching against religion, to each his own. Just except the song for what it is, a beautifull piece.
