A prophet or prophetess is a person obligated with the responsibility of being a follower from a holy person or thing with the purpose of making social change.


The bulk of recorded prophetic experience from the Jewish Tanakh suggests that prophets do not seek the gift of prophecy, and often lack motivation to fulfill its obligation, and seek no reward for the delivery of the message, indeed facing persecution, incarceration and execution in the process.
