Ever since the album Secret Treaties was released, the song Astronomy has been a star attraction in Blue Oyster Cults' repetoire. I first saw BOC perform the song in a concert at the classic Shrine Auditorium in Los Angeles in 1975. Maybe because Buck and Eric didn't write the song, it fell out
of favor after a while on the concert trail out in California. The previous few times I saw the band, according to Buck, Eric didn't feel like doing the song. Then, magically, I saw BOC in 2005 at The Grove in Anaheim, California and they
finally played it. I had taken my son, my daughter and her boyfriend to the show. I had also taken my homemade sign with Astronomy and BOC artwork saying "C'mon, Eric, please do Astronomy!", just like a twelve year-old. While later songs like "(Don't Fear)The Reaper" and "Burnin' For You" have grabbed most of the what I call "jam time" in the live act, BOC still does a mean version of "Astronomy" (like back in '75).
"Astronomy" will always be a star in my book.
