I cry everytime I hear this song. When I was a little girl, I used to tell my mom that I couldn't wait to grow up; she would tell me not to say that because when I did grow up, I was going to wish I were a kid. Boy was she right. I'm 23 now and I would give anything to be a carefree kid again. Maybe Vienna is waiting for me. I grew up too fast. Even now, I'm listening to Vienna and crying. I want my childhood back.

now im only 13 and i listen to alot of music mainly only stuff from the early 60s-80s so most kids my age dont understand why i like this song but they never understand.out of the music i listen to (and thats a lot) ths song is by far my favorite. so whiile the words listes to rap and rush there life away ill take my time, appreciate the little things and take my time and love the song the whole while. this is simply stunnning song it never gets old no matter how many times i listen to it. i even got to see him preform it live! thanks for the great song and great advice billy!!!

This song is so amazing...im 12 and I have been through alot lately and this song makes me realize slow down and really think that Why rush its so pointless to hurry your life and make mistakes that will change your life forever. Slow down just realize that your actions may not only affect you but other people in ways you may not imange.

This song never fails to give me chills. At seventeen I'm very high-achieving, taking university-level courses in high school. I first heard this song when I was really stressed out, listening to the radio while doing homework. When this song came on, I listened to the lyrics, and they just spoke to me. It reminded me to keep things in perspective and that I was letting my life slip by while I was "preparing" for the future.

Dyum he went of to follow his dreams, so ambitious like the song says, and he left me here just waiting, counting every second.....I just couden't keep him knowing he wanted to fly, because he loves his freedom.....This song describes exactly how I feel...It's been four months, and I told him I would wait for him, because I love him.....Meanwhile, I'm just here also working on my dreams, with high hopes for us.......and hopefully, he obtains what he wants......

I've been living in Vienna alone since I turned 14 years old to study music. I was really surprised when I heard Billy Joel say " Vienna waits for you" that I had to rewind the thing on the bottom of the screen about 3 times. It made me cry. I am experiencing everything he has sung firsthand: being young yet wanting to do so much. I left my family to come to this beautiful city to fulfill my dream- and that is to learn, hear, experience and live where most of the Great Masters have stayed. I've sacrificed a lot, financially, emotionally... but I can say that she is worth it, and that she is and will always be there, waiting for me. Ich liebe Dich, Wien! Du bist einfach das Beste!

Honestly, this song really gets to me... i havent heard from my boyfriend in months, and i dont know if he is honestly okay, he might be dead, but this was my song to him. he ran away to san francisco to get ahead in his life, and im not sure where he is now. but i listen to this song almost everyday, and everyday i think of him. thank you billy!!

I believe this song represents the fact that while working too hard - peoples lives actually pass them by.

"When will you realize, Vienna waits for you". It was inspired by an old woman he saw sweeping a sidewalk in Vienna.
I think his observation was, all though she's there in paradise - she wasn't experiencing it. Not even in her old age. The possibilities still passing her by, even in the end.

That whole you can't see forest through the tree's thing. Take a moment, have a deep breath, look around, realize where you are, experience it and enjoy your life completely present.

The song is simply superb. I can really relate to this song. I started working early and got busy with life. The song makes me realise of small things that went by and I did not care to notice. I have manic depression. I always see the negative. Today I felt happy for the first time in a long time. I found my place of serenity. I stood and listened to this song for a while, just pacing on a stage in a beautiful park. And I was genuinely happy. All the thoughts running around in my head didn't bother me. I was happy.

My mother died when I was 26 years old. She buried two sons, one at 19 and one at 26. They never really got to enjoy their life. Death has been a very profound part of my life. This song is the one song that makes me go forward every day. I know that when I die my mother will be waiting for me. I know this because my mothers name was VIENNA.....and Vienna waits for you!

Vienna is one of my new favorite songs and no matter how many times i listen to it, it never gets old.
I am in high school and now in a little band with friends. One of them plays the keyboard, so if i get him to learn the notes to Vienna, i am pretty sure i can sing it on stage. That is my new goal and thank you Billy Joel for bringing this wonderful song into the world.
