------ performed by Billy Joel
A Song after My Own Heart | Reviewer: The Subject of the Song | 7/10/08
This song is me, which isn't always something I'm proud of. I grew up with my mother's music... all generations. I can literally listen to anything, but from a young age, I began to love Billy Joel and Huey Louis and this genre of music. The first times I heard this song,it was just a catchy tune; emotionally performed, but I didn't listen to the words. I mean, come on... I was like 4!
I recently re-heard (hehe, now I'm making words up) this song... and realized that I am that woman. I don't intentionally hurt... I cut deeply through simple carelessness, lack of attention... I laugh about it rather than cry. I take care of myself, I never give out, I never give in. I bring out the best and the worst you can be, because I am so in tune with myself and with you that you can't help the passion inside you, good or bad. I can ask for the truth but I'll never believe; that's the only part that's not true. It's an exaggeration of the truth, perhaps; mistrust comes from pain. Trained response.
Is this all women? Or does it strike home so firmly because of who I am?
A Woman | Reviewer: Aubree | 5/31/08
I'm sorry, but it is plain cruel to break someone's heart and laugh while they're bleeding. Who on earth would love someone like that?! This is not a very clear implication of what women are. It's a catchy song, but it describes women in a very poor manner. Who would intentionally hurt someone?
shes always... | Reviewer: manan gujju | 5/29/08
to me this song fits th bill of a loving relationship where the appreciation of the woman's simplicity and nature lasts beyond the pink dawn and stretches through as the relationship matures. the song is at once innocent and honest, yet insightful and deep.
in some ways it also makes me cherish the women in my life, and by that i don't mean just wives / girlfriends, but sisters and mothers and friends too. i swear i am not smallest bit incestuous, but if you try and see it like that, 'm sure you'll see it.
simple and remarkable song.
what a woman... | Reviewer: Anonymous | 5/9/08
i like this woman...no wonder i enjoy being a woman. to be born a woman is the best way to hang out on this planet...don't know about Mars and Venus and lots...but on this planet Earth...woman, always be a woman. cheers!!!

So true | Reviewer: Kraken | 4/24/08
I heard this song years ago sung by Billy Joel and never thought much to it's lyrics until at the age of 52 I became friends with a woman who I worked with. Although I never thought we would be anything more than friends, I carelessly fell in love with this woman, but that love wasn't reciprocated. We had some good times together just as friends without the need for any physical love. Unfortunately, to my deepest regret I let her down and we parted. The complete lyrics will be forever in my mind. I won't forget her at all. Thanks for being so good to me, dear Andris.
I'm sorry. I lost a good friend through my own insensitivity.
Amazing | Reviewer: Nick | 4/22/08
This song absolutely takes my breath away. Given, I am young and by young I mean I was born way after the album was out, but Billy's lyrics are timeless and can inspire all generations. God knows there's a girl in my life who knows exactly how to build me up and bring me up and yet even in her fits of rage, I can't help but not be completely enamoured by her. She truly is always a woman to me.

this song should be my husbands song to me. as i have the good side and the bad side. he has seen it all with me and still i am a woman to him. this is one of the most honest poems i have ever heard put to music. i think it affects the different sides of us all when we hear it. we recognize ourselves in it.
Love this song | Reviewer: Aubry | 4/2/08
I love this song. To me it is about a man who sees deep inside the woman. No matter how other people see her and describe her, she stands by her saying "she's always a woman to me". I have felt like this in my life, where people will say things about me, rumors and untruths about my character. They will see something without knowing the story behind it and twist it. others believe it and suddenly I have become this horrible person who lives to hurt others. An ice queen who cares only for herself and laughs at the pain of others. No matter what people have said about me, there is always that one person in my life who stands by me. No matter what others say or believe about me, he sees the truth.
That is what this song is to me.
I am this woman | Reviewer: Anonymous | 3/22/08
This song is my husband's song to me. I think the reason the character of the song is lovable is because she exhibits strength and realness. Besides, it's easy to fall in love with a woman who's not real nice because you don't think you will, you think it will just be a good time...then you drop your guard and get hooked...then you can't get enough of it. haha!
Loved it then and adore it now... | Reviewer: MacBraveheart | 3/5/08
I have always loved this song (first heard it in my early teens on his amazing album The Stranger) and in those days felt pride in my "womaness" as described by the lyrics but lately I have seen the more misogynist streak running through it and I can deal with that too. It is still a very powerful song and I do love its honesty- whatever Mr Joel's view on womanhood. :)
