its perfect | Reviewer: danny | 7/8/07
i think this song perfectly describes, how he loves a woman, eventhough she can be very cruel and harsh.
so what i mean is. it describes the UNCONDITIONAL love the guy has for this woman.
she is cruel harsh etc..and every verse ends with but i still love her....
Absolutely beautiful!!!!!!!!!! | Reviewer: Tina | 7/1/07
Actually i have heard the song several times in the radio without actually understanding the lyrics. i just hum it but then yesterday when i was watching my favorite noontime show it was being sung there with the lyrics flashed in the screen. and it was really the first time i appreciate the song.
Every line describes an independent woman-tough yet still a woman...
Its nice that youll somehow get out of yourself to see your worth as a woman not just under the control and manipulation of anybody because i am a woman who deserves the rights and priveleges everyone has enjoyed regardless of gender.
To all women out there, Go girl!!!

I disagree with the above comment. I don't think this song describes a cruel or manipulative woman. It describes any woman is passionate and alive. Yes she is emotional and yes she is always changing, but all her inconsistencies create a beautiful picture of a flawed human. Just like the chaos of a raging ocean is still a beautiful, so are the fleeting passions and emotions of a woman.

It was the best of times... | Reviewer: Always a Woman | 6/5/07
... it was the worst of times.
Billy Joel really captures what it's like to love a woman, not only in spite of but because of her flaws.
I love the fact that he appreciates her flaws and accepts them because there are so many positives to offset them!
Sigh.

This song is amazing. He's saying that even though she's flawed; she can be cruel, she lies, she'll hurt you so badly, but he loves her anyway. It doesn't matter she does, it won't change his opinion of her.
Peace....... if only in lyrics | Reviewer: Kali... | 4/22/07
If this song was written about a particular woman in his life then i'm happy for her, because to the all the woman who claim that they are like this woman...then you know that this woman is seldom ever truly happy and that love from a man who truly understands (like billy seems to) is the most elusive thing out there. He says he does and he may accept for a time but it always turns out to be a 'tad bit' more than he can handle. "she is frequently kind and is suddenly cruel". If Billy is/was in love with a woman like this(and i know he was, cause you can only gather this sort of insight if you had first hand experience) then i applaud and i thank him on behalf of myself and all the 'others' who has yet to meet there Billy. a man who can understand, accept and sincerely appreciate such a woman. A little secret: if you men/ women out there can learn to do this; then we'll 'always be a woman' to you!

This song is definitely about a scorpio woman! And it is a beautifully written piece which shows the reality of a relationship, the positives and the negatives. And truth is beauty.
Love song gone wrong? | Reviewer: Anonymous | 4/14/07
Although Billy Joel's excellent writing skills shine through in the music and lyrics of this song, it's certainly not about the "ideal" woman. The song is basically descrbing a painfully independant woman.
It's a "get-in-my-way-and-I'll-blow-you-to-pieces" sort of girl, who knows what she's talking about and sounds pretty opinionated. But, you wuld have to imagine the song's subject as desirable, for the passion she puts into her anger could be the strength she uses to defend you. Make her an ally, and she'll never turn back- but she will not be ruled. She will be a ruler or walk alone. The repeating of the line, "She's always a woman to me," probably refers to the generalization that in every woman's heart, no matter how brutal, there is always some amount of caring. It proves that Joel can see through the girl's implied toughness and knows that somehow she has a gentler, more passive side.
I feel somehow that the woman in this song has created a wrong image for herself to protect her fragile soul, and slices other's hearts to seem stronger. It is a sharp, prickling force of a feeling that she uses to defend herself from sadness. Now, noone is ready to be cut be her sour sarcasm and laughing brutality. What she wants, but doesn't let anyone know, is just a little compassion. Someone who is devoted and someone who she can be devoted to. Someone who can stand her anger and still come out madly in love.
And, yes, just to be cliche, I'm going to include that I do belive this song describes me. I know that I can push someone away with blunt force and sharp words. I'll create an insult on the spot, because I know that if I let the rong person get too close, I'll be shattered. So, the woman, just like I, wears a mask of apprehension and paranoia.
Billy Joel conveys all of these qualities in this beautifully passionate song.

Beautiful song, makes me want to cry, but then again I am a woman :).
@ "Get Real": read the lyrics with more attention! "She brings out the worst & the best in me"! He describes a longtime relationship according to me. Frankly, I would be more suspicious if a guy would only mention about the positive aspects of a particular woman.
