The Reviews about She's Always A Woman (page 10/ 10)
------ performed by Billy Joel

Love song gone wrong? | Reviewer: Anonymous | 4/14/07

Although Billy Joel's excellent writing skills shine through in the music and lyrics of this song, it's certainly not about the "ideal" woman. The song is basically descrbing a painfully independant woman.

It's a "get-in-my-way-and-I'll-blow-you-to-pieces" sort of girl, who knows what she's talking about and sounds pretty opinionated. But, you wuld have to imagine the song's subject as desirable, for the passion she puts into her anger could be the strength she uses to defend you. Make her an ally, and she'll never turn back- but she will not be ruled. She will be a ruler or walk alone. The repeating of the line, "She's always a woman to me," probably refers to the generalization that in every woman's heart, no matter how brutal, there is always some amount of caring. It proves that Joel can see through the girl's implied toughness and knows that somehow she has a gentler, more passive side.

I feel somehow that the woman in this song has created a wrong image for herself to protect her fragile soul, and slices other's hearts to seem stronger. It is a sharp, prickling force of a feeling that she uses to defend herself from sadness. Now, noone is ready to be cut be her sour sarcasm and laughing brutality. What she wants, but doesn't let anyone know, is just a little compassion. Someone who is devoted and someone who she can be devoted to. Someone who can stand her anger and still come out madly in love.

And, yes, just to be cliche, I'm going to include that I do belive this song describes me. I know that I can push someone away with blunt force and sharp words. I'll create an insult on the spot, because I know that if I let the rong person get too close, I'll be shattered. So, the woman, just like I, wears a mask of apprehension and paranoia.

Billy Joel conveys all of these qualities in this beautifully passionate song.

Beautiful song, makes me want to cry, but then again I am a woman :).
@ "Get Real": read the lyrics with more attention! "She brings out the worst & the best in me"! He describes a longtime relationship according to me. Frankly, I would be more suspicious if a guy would only mention about the positive aspects of a particular woman.

Get Real! | Reviewer: Anonymous | 3/24/07

I am astounded by the number of people who think this is a beautiful love song, especially the woman who think so. It is anything but. Read the lyrics. He is describing a manipulative nightmare of a woman who eats guys for breakfast. If a husband or boyfriend tells you that this song perfectly describes you, it's time for some serious soul searching.

I believe he was writing that song about Christie Brinkly, who he was married to. And I am pretty certain he loved her a lot....

Billy Joel couldn't be more accurate in the description he has given. It's perfect!

BJ's insight to the nature of an independent woman is on point. When you meet such a female or fall in love with one-which is the case with me, you begin to r e a l l y appreciate Joels accute insight and private pain (and pleasure).Remember,be careful what you pray for and appreciate what you have-even if it is for a short period!

Me in a song | Reviewer: Anonymous | 10/27/06

My boyfriend says this song is the exact picture of me.. Did Billy Joel write this song about a woman like this he loved?

Real life example | Reviewer: Anonymous | 9/5/06

These lyrics perfectly describe the way I am feeling now. The woman I once loved has let drugs destroy our relationship. I think of her and all of the things she's done every time I hear Billy Joel sing this tune.
