The Reviews about She's Always A Woman (page 8/ 10)
------ performed by Billy Joel

Compliment! | Reviewer: marshalllouise | 10/5/07

I mentioned something about Billy Joel to my mom one day. We carried on a conversation of his brilliance for some time. Near the end of our discussion she said "...one of my high school boyfriends said that I reminded him of the girl in the song 'She's always a woman to me'..." she gazed pensievely into the distance with a subtle grin on her face. Then she quickly snapped back to reality "though I'm not sure if it was a compliment or not" she said returning to her previous activities, leaving me curious. I knew the song but, had not listened closely to it. It was weeks later that I was in a friends car and heard a memorable piano introduction. i wasn't very familiar with the song so, I wasn't too sure what it was at first. I listened as best I could in the loud car, with the music only playing faintly. for, the first time I caught some of the words. when I caught enough of the words I couldn't help but smile. I later searched the lyrics and upon reading through them I felt imediately moved and honored to be a woman. To me, the song all in one described true love and defined a woman better than any text book or dictionary could venture to explain. Each time I hear it I can find new ways in which I am a "woman" This song has become in a way a justification of all my wrong-doings. Something goes wrong, and I look through the lyrics and decide that things went wrong because "I ask for the truth and never believe it" or I'm "frequently kind and suddenly cruel". being able to use this song in that way only gives me hope in darkness that in some of our harshest qualities, to someone we are "always a woman" to them!

Brings back memories.... | Reviewer: Kaida | 9/15/07

This song was one of my very first 'favorite songs' when I was little--this, and one I seem to recall being 'From a distance'. Such sweet memories this song evokes.

Wonderful | Reviewer: Anonymous | 9/7/07

This song is my mums fave, and to be honest she aint alf got a point. I love all of Billy Joels stuff.

Flaws of endearment | Reviewer: Ione | 8/30/07

This song can be written only by a man who is in touch with his feminine side.

I love Billy Joel for his musical genius. I love him more for this song for his courage to depict women in a different light... strong, in control, sophisticated, capable of manipulation and deceit... human.

A brilliant lyricist, he was able to endear the woman to the world despite her flaws and misgivings. I say this cause I have yet to know someone who has heard this song and does not smile. And this is true to both male and female listeners.

nice song | Reviewer: Anonymous | 8/26/07

Yes, this is romantic. But being a woman, I don't know if I should be flattered or offended by the song. Lol, I like it though.

there's a little bit of it in every woman | Reviewer: Anonymous | 8/15/07

I have always loved this song, from the first time I heard it.
I'm a woman in my forties now and as the years went by, I find that we all seem to appreciate things even more or the other away around, of course. This song is so romantic, and so true! There's a little bit of it in every woman!

i believe that this song is just describing how women are... not saying it's bad or good but that she's always a woman... it's her nature.. that women... like it love or hate it it's how it is...

She's Ahead of Her Time | Reviewer: Laota | 7/30/07

Firstly, I'd like to say that if this song were about a man, I doubt anyone could be surprised by the magnitude of offenses discribed, but make it about a woman and it's apparently red letter? Women are only *supposed* to be gentler than men, which isn't sufficient motivation for any of us. *lol*

Secondly, I think the woman in the song is forgiven for her cruelty by the man who loves her for good reason. She's an almost goddess-like figure in his estamations -- if I didn't know any better, I'd swear he was describing an intimate relationship with a deity -- he's giving her license to to steal, torture and kill, and suggests that the listener "blame it all on yourself". Men fall in love with women like this *because* of their nature, not inspite of it.

Besides, there's no evidence that this guy didn't dish out his share of careless cuts and casual lies; he might even have worse coming to him. 'Cause honestly, have you ever met a grown man who didn't deserve a kick in the teeth?

Eye of the beholder... | Reviewer: Anonymous | 7/25/07

It's interesting how the song has been interpreted by the different sexes. As a man, I have loved women who have seemed cruel in their attempts to be strong. Who have seemed self centered in their wish not to be taken advantage of. The basic truth is, women choose who they want to be with. A man searches for a woman that wants to be with him. (Whether he's aware of it or not.) If she's with you, and the positives outweigh the negatives, you're ahead of the game. "Don't sweat the small stuff. It's all small stuff."

Cheers! | Reviewer: Just call me Rob | 7/20/07

I believe you are all arguing an irrelevent debate. The beauty of music is that anyone can interprat it the way they feel it in their heart. Anyone who is a musician/poet understands that. I think that's what makes this song so good, and successful because the artist knows how to write, what I feel is an unbias song.
