------ performed by Billy Joel

some people think billy joel is bad for saying that "he wants a catholic girl to lose her virginity"- but what he is trying to say is you only have one life so LIVE IT. I'm a Catholic girl and I still LOVE this song =P

Classic | Reviewer: bec. | 6/3/07

billy joel tells it how it is.. this is something that is not cherished anymore and its an awesome song... its awesome to sing to and creates a good atmosphere he sees things from all perspectives people dont give people chance yetr they dont care of the consequences that occur for them. i love this song

Catchy tune. Throwback style to the original rockers of the 50s...much like Springsteen, the Stray Cats and Meelencamp. It is amazing how many people are missing the message of this song. Nothing is worth waiting for (i.e...."They say there's a heaven for those who will wait"..."Sooner or later it comes down to fate, I might as well be the one,)has to do with taking this Catholic girl's virginity. The problem is...there are some things worth waiting for. That might not be popular in a indulgent society, but truth rarely is popular. As a guy who has seen it all...and buried friends along the way who lived by this philosophy...believe me, the thrill of pushing the button today is not always worth the price you pay each tomorrow after that.

And I wonder if Joel would sing this song today, with his daughter in her teenage years.

nahhh | Reviewer: melissaa | 5/10/07

it may be about losing your virginity, but what he's trying to say is that if you die young, you're good.
every child has an innocence to them, even if they were considered a "bad kid". he's saying that the only people that die good, are people that die young.

haha WAKE UP AND READ THE LYRICS | Reviewer: kt | 5/3/07

THIS SONG IS ABOUT LOSING YOUR VIRGINITY, NOT DEATH. BILLY JOEL WANTED TO TAKE A YOUNG CATHOLIC GIRL'S VIRGINITY. VIRGINIA=VIRGIN.
DUHHHHHHHHHH

A TRUE CLASSIC TALE OF LOVE | Reviewer: wingman580 | 2/18/07

I was a kid hanging on a corner riding a motorcycle in the early eighties and fell in love with a catholic school girl whose parents truly disliked what I was and tried to buy me off but too bad for them...
It was a terrific time and I can swear to you her "mother never said a prayer for me" after five years her parents finally won the battle . But Have since met the wife of my dreams whom is truly my best friend we have four kids and have been married 17 years.
This song still states the obvious you only live once and enjoy it while you can, do not always worry if your decision is the popular one but the one truest to you and your heart!!

You guys all have it wrong | Reviewer: Anonymous | 2/19/07

This song is about losing your virginity...Virginia, catholic school girls...etc

This song has someting outside of the box to say. | Reviewer: Tim M. | 2/21/07

Billy joel was trying to make the point that if life isn't lived then it is wasted on the young who don't know how to live until they are at least 30.

He got it wrong | Reviewer: Anonymous | 2/9/07

Actually, it's the good who are likely to live long, live well and live life to the fullest. The bad are overwhelmingly more likely to die young. Obviously, this guy never knew what real living was about.

I didn't get what this song was referring to... | Reviewer: Anonymous | 2/4/07

but ever since I did, I laugh every time! I'm 14 and I LOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOVE this song, as all others!! Billy Joel is awesome!! =P

p.s. I'd sing it 24/7...if I could sing...
