I grew up during this time | Reviewer: Cyndi K. | 10/6/07
I was in High School during the war in Nam. My brother was in Saigon with the Army. This song gave me chills and brought back many memories and fears from that time. Wow! Billy Joel is the quintesential musical storyteller of our time; he just gets it right . This song tells the story.

It's amongst the best | Reviewer: Per LAuritzen | 7/16/07
The raw feeling that Billy Joel puts into this songs really told me that war is not only about h´pnor and Glory, But that the coin also has another side.
A good song to let all those Guys and girls that wants to go to war hear before they enlisten.
anti war | Reviewer: james guiney | 7/10/07
Growing up in ireland this song has set me in great stead. understanding what men at war go through, but also how pointless it all is first the romans, the english and now the americans power and money = war. now what's happening in irag is frightfully similar to what happend in the north of ireland a war no one will win just like vietnam. does history teach us nothing.
Great song
One of my favorites! | Reviewer: nicole | 5/19/07
Thi song is one of my favorties of all time. I love how Billy Joel really let you know how it was in the Vietnamese war. Learning about it in school doesn't compare to all of the raw emotion that he put in this song. My favorite lines are, "We came in spastic, like tameless horses. We left in plastic as numbered corpses." Those lines let you know ho they felt and what ended up happening to the soldiers over there in Nam. He wrote it beautifully and I hope that everyone else can appreciate this song as much as I do!
Reminder | Reviewer: Emma-Jane | 5/17/07
I'm a Dutch girl and I'm sixteen, and I never really understood what had taken place in Vietnam. Just like so many, I was shocked to see and hear fragments of that war and angry to see how much suffering humans can cause to eachother. This song makes me understand a little bit of the anger, pain and sadness that those involved must have felt and still feel. And I am thankfull for that, because it makes me understand once more how blessed my life is!
Years later... | Reviewer: "Skipper T. Thomas" | 5/10/07
I love this lament... Not pro or anti war by any means... Just a look at what those of my brother's generation went through in Nam... We can see this a song alot of our guys and gals can relate to in a different vein, in the current struggle of what is right and honorable and what others would see as a vein attempt.. Not judgemental, but like a WWII story from Hoosier Ernie Pyle.... It makes you aware and does it's best to put you there in the Delta...At Hue..DaNang..Flying over the DMZ and into the skies over Hanoi...Or a B-52 crossing into Loas from Thiland, on your way to drop the cargo....From the Forrester in the South China see to the guys who came home, but not completly... Thanks "BJ"... You were an observer of your generation and a time that stands still.....
Best of the best | Reviewer: Michael Ferguson | 5/6/07
I was there...this is my song yet is everyone's song....this song describes so many memories for both American and Australian soldiers. Billy Joel has captured the essence of the conflict that resides in the hearts of many vets. I am sure the forgotten Korean troops that fought along side us in Vietnam still sing this song...Billy Joel's follow up to this one-of-a-kind poem put to music would have to be "We Didn't Start the Fire", another amazingly written song. I know the Vietnam War will be remembered forever...I hope Billy Joel is too. Thanks Billy for capturing us (safely) in this song of our memories.
Near perfect | Reviewer: David Berentson | 3/20/07
I understand that Billy Joel got the ideas from someone else because Mr. Joel wasn't there. Billy Joel's writing, music, and drama (...and we will all go down together...) for this former Marine were as perfect as they could be.
The lyrics and music are the best that anyone could do, and it's all true.
australian and proud of you all. | Reviewer: erica chambers | 3/20/07

Sadly enough .. | Reviewer: Anonymous | 8/7/06
A great song and tribute to the Vietnam veterans.
Unfortunately, you could exchange Saigon with Bagdad and not much would be different. Again, fine young Americans die by the thousands believing to defend the American Freedom, however this freedom is limited to Halliburton sales, Exxon record profits and a more than questionable Cowboy, uhm, sorry President that would be ....

This song really makes me apreciate how lucky my life, that i didn't have to cope with things that these people in the song did. This song really tugs on the heart strings.
A classic | Reviewer: Jonathan M. Browne | 1/18/06
One of the best written songs ever, quite a sad song, a classic, if you haven't been there, I urge you to visit Saigon, you Americans have alot to answer to, I'll leave it at that.
Not a bad song | Reviewer: Nash | 12/28/05
I always saw this song as kind of a lament. It contains all the lyrics and the music works well. If you want to grieve the war then this song is absolutely perfect. For me personally the change in music and beat for "And we would all go down together" disrupted the tone that the rest of the song set. But I'm sure most people didn't see it that way. Overall it is well done. It is what it is meant to be.
Thank You Vietnam Veterans | Reviewer: Anonymous | 12/20/05
I am 48 yrs old and grew up in the time of the Vietnam Conflict This song epotimizes the struggle our soldiers faced everyday of that war and I listen to it periodically to remind me of the time in history. I ask that you ask everyone the age of 50 or more if they served there and if they did then Please Thank Them for thier selfless sacrifice for you.
