------ performed by Billy Joel
The perfect theme song for a man that loves women | Reviewer: Lord Dragon | 7/4/09
I've played this song for three women to get them past being burned by bad men, the first was the mother of my son, the second lived with me until she died, and the third one was last night. Billy got it right.
Malicious Love | Reviewer: Michael | 12/10/08
Sad thing in life indeed. Take someone who's gone through this, a lot of love and self-reflection to write this song (and of course, a lot of music talent). I believe this is the song written for the same woman in "Always a woman to me", and "I love you just the way you are". This woman in the song is tragically trapped in a world of self-justification, blame and spite, doing things emotionally hurtful to herself and her loved ones. I feel sorry for them both. Joel's been on the other side of the door too, and he can sympathize that. And yes, in his past life, someone could have written "An Innocent Woman" or "Always a man to me", though because of society the sufferings will be in a somewhat different form. The dilemma here is that probably this woman will even find the song offensive even though it's written out of love. Will you call this innocent or naive, love or obsession? The other question is how did the woman in this song get into this hurtful mess to start with? Could it be self-justifications, blame and spite, or is it something else? I hope there will be healing for these two poor souls.
Exactly what Im going through right now | Reviewer: A. | 7/24/08
She's been hurt in the past by a couple guys. I'm trying to convince her to love again, since we've had such an immediate connection. Any little thing I do thats wrong though, she latches on to and won't deal with. Its frustrating, but I love this woman and I know she loves me too, we just have some walls to break through.
Amen | Reviewer: Anonymous | 9/26/07
This song had touched the heart of thousands of people and will keep on toughing the souls of people who love to hear a song about life and what it really about.
Why does it hurt??? | Reviewer: xanz doe | 9/17/07
Because it's far too true of far too many. Nothing touches like real life - Joel spears us all with this one - we HEAR it because we KNOW it. Hardly a sweet bit of fluff, but a pleading - as all are guilty but at the same time each man is an innocent one.
its about loving and living with courage | Reviewer: Susan | 8/20/07
its true therefore hard hitting.
most people resist love and therefore life.
by extention they also resist engagement with social causes, and choose to take it all lying down!
guess you have to have been in love to realize the true worth of life and thus want to do everything you can to make life a wholesome experience.
Heartbreaking song | Reviewer: Dione | 6/14/07
I find this one of the most heartbreaking songs ever...especially of course perfomed live. I absolutely love these lyrics. If you're in the sort of mood where you can relate to it, it can easily make you weepy. At least I can get that way:)
