The message? Wouldn't it be nice if everyone in the USA had an ocean so they could spend their summers surfing. Ahh -- innocence. The song is often described as "Chuck Berryesque", but in fact the song- writing credits for the song on the album "Surfin' USA" list ONLY Chuck Berry. If you've heard Berry's "Sweet Little 16", you know why. Effective drumming from Dennis Wilson, great Freshmen-influenced harmonies, this is an excellent song I don't know if I've ever listened to without singing along.
