Maybe a more ironic tone |
I think this song is definitely a sad song, but in the guise of a happy fun time drinking song. The song is about dependance on alcohol to get through life, but the catchiness and up beat tone shows you how fun it is whilst actually drinking. It becomes even more sad because it's all pretending to be okay when there's really a large underlying problem.

Interesting reviews I've read so far. I've always taken the meaning of this song to be sort of a sad song, relating to a person dependent on alcohol, and that they can't deal with life otherwise. I don't think it glorifies alcohol, but rather shows a sad dependance.
Mr. Manning... I totally agree with you... unfortunatly for me (and alot of people) I have been going through an alcoholic period in my life... and this is definatly a love song to alcohol... but from the other side (someone who can legally drink, and does too much) I can see a bright side in this song... the first stanza pretty much sums up my life... but all the asking for apologies... that really hits home... and like you said, very catchy tune, and memorable lyrics, I'm glad other people like it, and I'd be glad to hear others opinions...
A great song deserves praise! |

What a song this is. First, to be clear, I am not of legal drinking age and I have never had a sip of alcohol in my life, and yet I feel this is one of the greatest songs I have ever heard. Why? Because this song is catchy and innovative. The tune stuck in my head as soon as I first heard this song, and I love the words to. It sort of tells the story of an alcoholic... while he is drunk. It is a love song to alcohol, which is a fun concept. Also, it is a very innovative song. The way that the song changes gears (as well as octaves) is beautifully done and entertaining. I LOVE THIS SONG!!!!!!!!
